So I found a really good deal on Craigs List. I pickes up a Cannon Rebel 6.3 MP with a 18-55 lens, a Promaster AF70-300MM F4-5.6 Macro lens, Promaster add on flash, 2 -1 GB memory cards, card reader, remote, 2 UV filters and all the factory stuff for 500. I have been watching and watching and I jumped on this one.

So I have played around with a little bit and WOW what a difference between this and my point and shoot. Just had to share. Pic to come soon, for some some friendly advice.

Congrats on your new purchase.
Sorry to rain on your parrade but I guess the promaster lenses (at least the 28-105 that I had) will be a limiting factor on that camera. My esperience with promaster lense that I bought just to use when my 18-200 Vr was in repair was a really bad one my pictures were really soft. Yes it will still focus better than a point and shoot and maybe give you better pictures but thats not all your camera can do. I suggest comparing the images you get with better quality lenses and deciding on wether to keep your lenses or replace them. Also the Kit lens that ships with Canon is notorious for being really soft so it's not the best purchase. Still an overall price of 500 for what yo ugot was a good deal and I guess with time you'll improve on your lenses collection.

So far from playing with the Promaster it is not too bad. But you are right, for detailed macro shots I will end up getting a different lens. But I do have say the tamar lens that I have played with are comparable to the promaster, in my limited SLR experience. So far it has been great.
