He has stayed in his cave for about a year now and finally he is getting comfortable enough to come out of his layer lol

How long did it take to change from a horizontal line to the vertical lines? Mine is now about 6 mos old seems to be growing fast now. What an awesome fish.

I keep a group of 3. They are always in a tight group. And seem to be more active when there is more than one.

It took about maybe 4-6 months for his horizontal strips to change to vertical. I think he looks way cooler now than he did before some people think they are ugly but I love him. He's my eel without having an eel.

I guess some are really secretive and some aren't. I didn't get lucky to have an outgoing one. But he does have his little head sticking out of his cave all the time and the cave is in the front of the tank so it could be worse

I got two when I first got them but something happened to the other one. I think he got killed by the one I have now. Maybe I should have got more than two..
