FINALLY MY TURN!....225g build thread...(Lots of pics)

Not easy at all. It was in hiding for the first two days and hard to photograph but sure is a nice looking vibrant fish.

i am also starting up a 225 and i was worried that my stand was a bit weak. I can't believe that your stand has the entire back, side and front open. Do you feel that it is strong enough? My stand has a full back and is braced in the middle with 2x4's. It is made by glass cages.

Beautiful tank!!!!

Funny you mention that, when upgrading to a bigger sump, I had to cut and remove one of the vertical wood braces in the back and that's when I realized that no pressure AT ALL was being placed on them, which means that all the pressure of the tank is on the edges/sides. The stand is VERY sturdy and made of Oak so I do sleep comfortably at night. Can't wait to see your build thread. good luck.

i am also looking at a 240 wide from glass cages, 72X30X26 , how would you rate the quality, and looks of your tank ? Any pictures yet ?

Haxer, great choice on those dimensions. Don't get me wrong, I love the "Show Tank" look of my 30 tall and everyone that sees it in person loves the eye level/tall look of the display, but will be getting a 30 wide next time around because there is just so much potential in terms of rockwork and coral placement. Good luck with your build as well.

Nice job so far, but if no one has told you, you need to get that new skimmer! I like you fish chioces so far. Keep the up dates comming.

Hey Bax, yeah, it was suggested many times to get a new skimmer and I just got it a while back. Will try to post the pics of it soon. Was originally going to get the Reeflo, but had absolutely NO place to put it either inside the stand or outside, so I was left with no choice but to get an internal/in sump model and went with the ATI Bubble Master 250, rated for 500+ gallons, so I should be fine with that for my heavy bioload 275g total water volume system.
In the midst of upgrading my lights today. Going from 3-250w mh 20k to 3-250w mh 14k with no actinics. Only had a chance to test one bulb yesterday and no sure how I like the "washed out" look of the 14k. MIght have to supplement with actinics.

I think you'll like the Bubble Master, I don;t have one but do use the same Sicci pump as a mod on my ASM and it kicks booty.

I recently changed to a 15 k bulb from a 10 k and I still like my T-5 supplementation, but that ... you'll have to decide for yourself.

Good Luck, it's comming along nicely.

Good to know about the pump...the BM 250 comes with 2 Sicci pumps so hopefully they will kick twice the booty. Someone told me that this skimmer pulls the SH*T out of the fish before they even have the urge to go..lol..
Yeah, will have to go with a retro kit for actinics I think. Have to do some research. Also will post new pics very soon as I have done some changes even to my livestock. Thanks for the well wishes and I seriously commend you for having the will power to not give into temptation and setting up that 220 that you have in storage. This hobby is soooooooo addictive, but you gotta love it ; )

Nice job, everything looks great -

I just picked up a 225 myself (acrylic) so I'll keep checking here for updates and how things like your skimmer choice turns out - I am pretty much in the same situation as you (Coralife Superskimmer and all) but I am going from a 125 to the 225... no nano for me!

Good luck - again it looks great so far!

I have to take some updated pics of the skimmer and the fish. My golden angel is doing great, a little too great if you ask me. lol. I'm starting to get tired of seeing him so much. lol. Will post some pics this weekend.
