Hey guys, newbie here. Finally got my tank put together and started cycle. It is 48x24x24 120 or 150. 40 gallon sump refugium with curve7 skimmer, eheim 1262 return pump, and jebao wp40 wavemaker. Also two reefbreeders photon 24 led lights. Started my cycle 5 days ago, so I'm patiently waiting. Any ideas or suggestions from you guys as far as equipment or advice would be appreciated. I still have a lot to learn

Finally ready!!!

I actually just looked at my rocks and there's very small brown spots on rock and sand. It's only been cycling for 5 days. Is it too early for diatoms? I've been dosing with nitrobacter7 since day one. On day 2 my Params were
PH 7.8
Ammonia .25
Nitrite .25
Nitrate 5
Day4
PH 8.2
Ammonia .50
Nitrite .50
Nitrate 5.0 or 10

Us too!

Us too!

My husband and I just finished about 3 weeks ago cycling our new 450 gallon and we had diatoms about the 2nd week into it. Brown sheets everywhere on the acrylic, on the sand, on the rocks! We took several base rock from our 180 gal and used it for the foundation rock and purchased other rock from various individuals as well as some from reef rock. We noticed that most of the diatoms started on the reef rock even though we had it all (except from our 180) flushing in fresh water for a month or so prior to putting it in to start the cycle. Be patient which is one of the hardest things to do in this hobby. It will go through the cycle and clear up then you will be good to go.

Yea im trying to be patient because i want to do it right. I was just concerned because i just started cycling 6 days ago and im already starting to get diatoms. Im assuming its because im using nitrobactor7. Im new but so far i have done enough research and watched enough videos to write a research paper haha! So far i love this hobby!
