Are you talking about Weatherson? His is a thread about a 240g reeftank. But you can go to his site to get the shorter version. His thread is over 115 pages long now. www.weatherson.com And here is the tail end of his thread. If you go back about 3 pages, he talks about the SPS issues until the present posts.

I used B-Ionic for 3 years on my tanks, and had great results. If I had to blame a product between B-Ionic and Oceanic, the salt would be my bet.

I don't know what you mean by moderate dosing of B-Ionic, btw. It is a product that you must use daily to maintain Alk, Ca, and pH in perfect balance. It takes 30 seconds a day to dose the tank, and testing your water weekly will assure that you are on target.

Moderate isnt the right word, sorry for the confusion. All I mean is I dont use as much as reccomended. I use about half, and have a close eye on my alk/ca/ph,,,they are stable.

Thanks for the link, I am with you I am really leaning towards the salt. Maybe I will go back to IO.

Gotta back Mark up on this one...if its a toss up between the salt or the B-ionic...its the salt. Low calcium you can compensate for...

I agree, I never really considered it being an issue with the b-ionic. I was just looking into what changed during that time.

I am seriously thinking of going back to IO, I NEVER had problems like this when I used it.

tropic marin has worked excellent for me for my 40 gallon tank.

Thats good to know, you are not the first to have mentioned this salt to me.

i've heard thats a good one as well. I think I remember hearing, (not necessarily a scientific source admittedly) that TM had a slight amount of detectable phosphates in a fresh bucket from someone who had used it in the past. I think you would be well served with eith of those two, and should at the very least do a water test of whatever you choose to buy and put in your tank. Just to see what you're starting off with.

Well I decided to do it, and change back to IO. Sunday evening I drained the tank completely in prep. Today I will start the day long process of making 100 gallons of new salt water using IO only and hopefully re-aquascape sometime wed afternoon. I feel a bit of comfort going back to IO, after having had great results with it the first 4 years of reefing.

I will update as I go along.

Thanks for paying attention!

OMG! I forgot how long this takes!

OMG! I forgot how long this takes!

I started last night at about 9 pm making new RO-DI for the refill, I am at this moment still about 10 gallons away from the half way point ( display only ). I am going to wait and pour in this last batch around 10:30 then its time for a nap before ( I HOPE ) finishing tommorow evening.

What size RO/DI unit do you have? Even a 100gpd unit has trouble meeting that goal in the cold of winter. The source water is too cold to flow fast enough.

Yep Marc,

That pretty much sums it up. I have a 100gpd unit, I actually made the last post about it taking so long as a joke, I was aware ( unfortunatly ) of the time it was going to take to do this. I just finished about a 4 hour nap and am back at it again. Hopefully with displacement from the rocks I will have it done withing the next 12 hours or so.:D

Is it 2006 already? :fun4:

I am so close!

I have it about 15 gallons away from having the display filled ( already aquascaped ) then to fill the sump, which will be another 15 gallons.

My back hurts, my fingers hurt, but i am almost there!:)

Ok,,,I just dont know if I am going to make it or not tonight/morning.

I am completely done filling the display and overflow box, now its just a matter of filling the sump to the right level. I am going on 4 hours of sleep ( if that ) and have to work tomorrow. I really wanted to have the main pump/skimmer/etc... running before I went to work, but I may have to wait and finish up when I get off.

The aquascape went smooth BTW. My finger on the other hand ( no pun intended ) are far from smooth at the moment!

Ran into a small snag!

I must have bumped the drain and return lines pretty hard in all the shifting around, the seals had sprung two small leaks. I noticed them when I turned on the main pump. I have the over flow drained and main return off and applied silicon to the connection to seal it up, now the wait till tomorrow when I can turn the pump on again and make sure I have a good seal ( I should with the amount I used LOL ) Everything is back in the tank now and I have my 4-MJ1200's and 2-MJ600's producing plenty of flow for the time being.

I will snap a shot ( of the hopefully last time I re-aquascape ) once the tanks clears up, which its pretty close to at the moment already.

Okay, that's it. From now on, only good news please. :)

Tell me about it!:D

Actually, I am not that upset about this tiny setback. I am Very happy that the whole thing is over with and I have it all back together.

And with yesterday being my wifes B-day, today being our 5 year anniversary, and Mon Valentines, I couldnt have timed it more perfect if I had tried!:p

Ok,

Finally I can post some positive news ( as Marc has requested! ). I was able to FINALLY get the leak stopped today. I tried and tried, but ended up cutting the old seal off and completely sealing it from scratch.

What leak? In a bulkhead? Is this thing filled up with water and livestock again? ;) Pictures please.

Marc,

The return line had a small leak right at the bulkhead, I have finally got it taken care of. Yes its completely filled and re-aquascaped and all remaining livestock is back in place. I will get a picture of everything tomorrow when the halides come on.

Cool,
thats what I like to hear. When you first started this thread, I saved a pic of the tank becuase I liked your aquascaping so much.
Glad to hear your getting back in action.

Nick
