finally upgraded!

Just wanted to post a few pics of my Mantis tank upgrade.

I bought an O.scyllarus from live aquaria about three years ago , and he has been in a 12g eclipse this whole time. Well I stumbled upon a tank/stand combo that closely matched the office furniture at my house.

The tank is a Oceanic 58g....I know, smasher + glass could = a disaster , but this glass is really thick for the size of the tank due to not having a center brace. I also have an acrylic lining on the bottom if/when he digs down. I really do not like acylic tanks, I always scratch them.

Anyway enough talk , here are some pics.

I would suggest that you provide a darker burrow or add some smaller pieces of shell and coral rubble to allow the animal to construct a burrow. It cannot effectively construct a burrow in loose sand and "open caves" do not provide adequate shelter.

that thing must of been extremely ****ed, it looks huge in the 58G and a 12G eclipse is a small *** tank compared to it

Thanks Dr. Roy.

I have plenty of small rubble pieces in my wet dry from my main display. I had some in the eclipse set up before the move but those are in my filter for this tank. I was plannning on puting abut 2-3 pounds of rubble in the new tank.

Any particular size? shape?

i found they will use anything and everything, my peacock uses a ton of rubble, shells, coral, if not given rubble they will make their own just so you know

OK got home from work and I quickly noticed that the tank was cloudy...guess who was re-arranging his new home??

ok this was is too funny..I actually got the impression that I was bothering him...he actually put this rock down, stopped and stared me down, almost like he was saying " you done'??

Looks like it knows what it is doing. You might add some smaller pieces (pea size) which it will used to fill in the gaps.

If you have a video camera (or high end electronic camera) that can function as an intervalometer (spelling?), it is fun to set it at a frame every minute and watch the construction over a few days. It really allows you to see how they are going about changing their world.
