Finally upgrading my lighting

Umm...I think you could do better than that price if you look around here for some used stuff. I bough my lights from Pete J for less than half that amount.

How many Hrs a day should i burn the halides? Then follow with the actinics for 2 hrs.

Possibly get a timer for the actinics to come on before the halides and then for an hour or two after the haildes. Timers i have now when the daylight timer shuts off the night timer comes on. No way of running the actinics on two diff. settings.

They sell dual manual timers at Home depot? Type with four switching pinpoints?

I would get 2 seperate timers. I like to run dimmer lights before the halides come on as well as after they go off. start with 5 hrs/day with the halides or thereabouts. How much is in the tank now coralwise?

Currently coral stocking is rather light. Some button polyps, various shrooms, candy cane, frogspawn, Zoo's and some star polyps.

Looking to get a clam or two. Some more LPS corals and some soft corals. I can't wait for the shimmer effect.

Wow this thing fixture is HUGE! Damn heavy. The ballasts are also large and heavy.

Only problem is one of the PC bulbs was shattered, didn't survive shipping. It was very well packed to. Damn UPS :mad2:

I'll fire it up as soon as Jill gets home from work.. LOL need help carrying it to the basement. 1- PC bulb maybe good. Hopefully the halides are okay.

I'll tell ya what I fired up mine the other night, they are BRIGHT !!!

The tank swap comes this weekend !!!

Shimmer Away !

I went to Eddie's and picked up new PC bulbs. OUCH was costly.

Hopefully the seller makes good and refunds the cost of the bulbs for replacement. I was told it was insured. If not will be in the feedback forum.

I should have the fixture mounted up tomorrow. Once I get up and running i will slowly up burn time to adjust what corals i have.

One Q? Everytime you add new corals do you have to lower your burn time and acclimate them???

I'll post pics and update after i get may live stock from LiveAquaria in. I'm struggling with algae issues due to ZERO cleanup crew. My LR has been suffering. :(

For future reference, get your bulbs through here. I've purchased the 12x96w pack and it works out to be a little more than $13 per bulb including shipping. He lets you choose spectrum too. Great deal in my opinion.

I'm waiting for all the "know it alls" to jump in from the recent posts forum to debate the quality, but I know first hand that I have excellent growth with these bulbs. Let the debate begin! :lmao:

LOL !!!

Your tank looks good ken !!!!

Anyone know of a link for 2x250 watt halides (screw in type)

I want to get some spare bulbs on hand... :)

I don't alter the time the lights are on. I just start the corals on the bottom of the tank if I think they might be sensative and move up after a couple days.
