So it been a struggle for me to keep my parameters of ca and alk up. Mag has always been in the 1400 due to the red sea pro salt and the alk in the salt is 11 kdh. My tank was holding at 6.4 alk and 390 ppm of ca. And it seems i could not get to go up with dosing. So I started dripping kalk( I am using mrs. Wages pickling lime) which is 2.88 for a pound at wally world. My tank uses 1/2 gallon of water a day so I got 1/2 gallon little buckets and drip 1/2 tsp. Per 1/2 gallon over a 24 hour period. And I am happy to report the my parameters are finally in check. I am holding strong at 8.4 alk 450 ca. And mag is 1400. I have also seen a reduction in hair algae, had a lot on the back glass that I could not get to. It is all gone:bounce2: I do water changes every week and dont over feed anymore but still had some algae but no more. I cant wait to see my corals go nuts now.

I was only doing 6ml a day but I just could not catch up. I am no longer dosing able to maintain with water changes and kalk.

6ml/day? That's soooooo little. How big is your tank?

On my 120G., with lots of small corals, not many sps, I dose 105ml/day or 0.88ml/gal/day. No problem maintaing levels.

I like the automated nature of the dosing - dosing pumps and controller. I only have to deal with the two part every month or so. Also since the TO is just RO/DI, I have no issues with build up on the TO system.

I'd be interested in hearing what other's experience is with dosing. Maybe Grant could chime in. His 120g, SPS dominated tank is dosed. So Grant, how much do you dose per day?

I remember grant telling me he was dosing about 175ml/day when his tank was booming.

I dose about 80ml/day but I also top off with kalk.

Assuming our tanks had the same corals and alk/ca uptake, you'd have to dose about 4 times what you were dosing to reach my levels.

It's great to know that can be achieved by using Kalkwasser!

IIRC, kalkwasser also precipitates out phosphate. Probably a factor in the hair algae reduction.

Yeah I think your right because to get my levels up before a water change I dosed 20 ml every other day 3 times to set the level of where I am at now. Then I have been running kalk for about 3 weeks I have done 3 water changes in that time and tested the day after and my levels have stayed the same.
