With this movie coming out pretty soon... Do ya'll think the price of blue tangs will increase?

one of my local LFS has stated they are not going to be stocking blue tangs following the release of the movie. If you want one, they will order it in for you, but they don't want impulse shoppers.

+1 for these guys.

wow good on them! At least in this case, you it seems easier and more likely people find a clown fish at a LFS than a blue tang. Obviously there will be some in stock, but numbers wise not nearly as many. I am sure demand will go up, but not by as much as what Nemo did. Besides, it isn't like Dory didn't have a big part in the first movie to begin with.

Edit. Also, prices should go up. I wouldn't consider that unethical or anything, but there are only so many blue tangs to go around. If demand increases and supply doesn't, or doesn't increase as much, basic economics states prices go up.

Would it be a horrible idea to go ahead and snag up a smaller one and keep it in QT a bit longer than planned? Would probably be in there for 3 months while I get some peaceful fish in the display tank.

If you have plenty of prime on hand, and don't mind doing a bunch of water changes. Or get the tank cycled first, I don't think it would be a huge problem. Though quite honestly I don't see the prices going up that much.

I've heard that finding dory has very strong anti-aquarium or at least anti-wild caught undertones. I think their plan is bring demand down for these types of fish. Then again, finding nemo had anti-wild caught themes and that only made clownfish popularity skyrocket

Yea humans are idiots. Hell even when I see shows about some adorable animal that may be threatened, or just makes for awful pets, I still think "I'd love that as a pet". See red pandas and slow loris.

Whether that's actually true or not, the kids that ask their parents for 'that cute blue fish' aren't likely to pick up on such subtlety; heck, majority of adults probably won't either :lol:. Doubt they'd do it, but some kind of public service message prior to the movie would be cool.

We've received advertising/emails at work basically telling us to stock up on Hippo's for the movies release. I don't really think we'll see that much demand to be honest. Even if Dory becomes just as popular as nemo, there is actually a fairly large price difference in my area. Nemo = 19$. Dory = 65$

Mom and Dad are way less likely to spend that when I can show them a Yellow tailed damsel and call it Dory.
