I purchased this about one month ago. The coral was doing well for three weeks. It was growing like a weed. It has not opened for about a week. Stats:

Calcium 400
KH 9-10
Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0
2vho actinic blue
3 Metal Halide 250 watt 1500K
I dose B-ionic when kh drops to 8

The coral is in strong current and and medium light.

I feed with dt's and oyster egg.

only a few fish 6 line wrass and on dark blue tang.

Reef is 8 months old.

They shed every once in a while, they close up during that time. The leather looks extremely healthy, just dont bug it and make sure it gets some flow to help remove the slime it will shed.
You have nothing to worry about, your leather will be just fine.

OK this has been closed about on week. I will be patient. seems like doing less is better. thanks again.

my finger leather has been that way for 3 years

Has it grown any in three years?

My coral began to open today. It is more open that I have seen for the past week. I noticed hermit crabs cleaning it last night. Must be shedding.

I had the same issue with some of my finger leathers.

1- I had them in to high of a water flow
2- I had a little to much light on them
3- I did not feeding the enough Iodine

So Im reduced my water flow in my tank using 2 korils 400gph power heads for a nice gental water flow. Now my leathers and shrooms are biger then ever.

I also use T5 lighting so I changed the bulbs around and found the following lighting set-up works best for me.

5- blue plus
2- fiji purple
1- colormax bulb

I also have my lighting cycle as follows

1 hours of actins
5 hours of day light
3 hours of actinics

I have 2- of the sme fingure leather that you can get to open and this is what works best for me.

Also you find the the molting or sheading process comes more into play with toadstool leathers. Not so much with finger leathers.

I moved a green finger leather in my tank from high in my tank to mid level and for 2 weeks it would not open. I move it back and the leather opened the very next day. Your leather might be in a spot where its not happy?

I also see you are using halids.

Leathers do Like lower lighting so you might want to try moving this to the bottom of your tank or off to the side where the halide is not so bright.

Thats why I run so much actinic in my tank.

I run 8- T5 = 432watts 4.8 watts per gallon Tank size 90 gallon

My 7 actinic bulbs = 378watts so my tanks is on the darker blue side.

Thanks

Leathers are my thing and I put everything into my leathers tank. And Im always looking to see who is doing something different that might help my tank out.

How is you leather doing?
