I've had my tangs for over 4 years. My regal tang is looking really bad. His skin looks like ha has pieces missing on his body and my naso and purple there fins look like they are disappearing the naso has nubs know! There is no fighting in my system. My blue face angel doesn't look effected! Someone please help! I also have a full blown reef and need to medicate according to the reef not being bothered! Thanks. I will get some pics asap!

I cannot tell from the photos, but your description sounds like HLLE.I had 2 Yellow Tangs and one had contracted HLLE,but for some reason it eventually fully recovered when I removed the carbon ,from the system. I had read previously that carbon could be a cause of HLLE.

Yes actually the fins deteriorate, and the fish ,will stop eating and eventually dies,if the cause is left untreated. It can be reversed if the cause is eliminated, usually if the water quality is improved or as in my case, the carbon seemed to be the culprit.

I don't see HLLE in those pictures. Seems to me most likely that parasites are eating the fins, any spots or heavy breathing?

Could you work on clearer pictures?

My Blue Tang had the same on his fins, I also noticed my Coral Beauty lost some purple around her face. I removed all carbon and the tangs fins all cleared up. The Coral Beauty never got any worse, but it didn't clear up the missing purple.

I would try removing the carbon. You won't notice an immediate change because there will still be carbon particles in your system. But, stick with it, and see if it improves over a couple of weeks. If you start to see improvement, that's your issue. If not, throw the carbon back in and look elsewhere for issues. Of course, you'll need to keep an eye on water parameters in the interim.

I don't run carbon at all in my 90G tank.

Good luck!
