firefish pair?

Once quarantine is over, my 75 gal DT will be home to a (not yet mated) pair of oscellaris clowns, a molly miller blenny, 2 peppermint shrimp, and a garden variety of hermits and snails. Plus a couple soft corals (goal is a mixed reef).

I'm debating whether to add one firefish or two...thoughts? Future additions will hopefully include a fairy wrasse (variety TBD), a yellow coris wrasse, longnose hawk, and coral beauty.

TIA,

Cindy

In my experience, when you start out with a group of firefish it slowly dwindles down to 1 for some reason. I have tried to keep a group twice, and both times same thing. A pair would only work if they were sold as a mated pair, at least based on my experience

If you put in two, do they ever pair up on their own?

They might ... if compatible.

Watch them in the shop - if you see two firefish side-by-side, defending their space against all comers ... that's the pair you're looking for.

One or two should be fine as long as they have a hidey hole to shoot into. Also make sure you either have a screen top or enclosed top. I've had clownfish and firefish jump out

I lost a clownfish a couple of weeks ago:( We have a screen top NOW...too little too late for my clown though.

Even if you find a mated pair of fire fish it is not uncommon for one to eventually kill the other. Good luck just my 2 cents.

cheaper than a divorce lawyer LOL

Sounds like the consensus is that it could work but not likely. I think I will stick with one.

Thanks, all!
