Firefish

I picked up a new firefish yesturday. I acclimated as per instructions on the forums. But since releasing him into my 90 gallon I have not seen him. My coral beauty and two clowns are doing great. Also the corals I got yesturday are looking happy. Is this normal for the firefish to hide in the rock work? How long in general before they come out?

My firefish hides all day except for feeding times. He's been in tank now about 3 months.

My firefish also hides except feeding times. He lives in the rocks.

Mine hid for about the first week or so, he/she has been in my tank for 3 months now and is usually out all day within inches of the dart hole. The only time it hides is.when there is fast movement then it darts for safety and is back out within minutes. The only other inhabitant other then cuc is a swales swissguard basslet which spends most of the day hovering in it's cave and only really emerges to eat.

Many fish hide based on who else they share the area with.
If he was the only fish in the tank for example, he would be out and hovering which is typical behavior

My group hid for a couple of days in a rock. We thought we had lost them all. It probably helps that I have a group, as they finally came out of hiding and swim together. They are very quick to hide still though although they come out faster.

When we added our last 2 fish, which are the biggest fish in the tank. The group hid for almost 10 hrs. but went back to their normal shoaling which surprised me as I thought they'd be in fear of the larger fish for much longer.

My Exquisite FF never hides, swims with my pair of Darwin clowns, Golden Midas and Vrolik's wrasse.

Just picked up a firefish the other day and couldn't find him. Had a minor panic attack, but he's been hiding out at night/early morning in the rocks, and comes out to play all day. Pretty cool fish.

Mine is out all day. I got 2 bc I thought they were peaceful, but one has been hunted by the other incessantly. Do they do better in 3s?

In the wild they are a schooling fish. Having only one might result in it being scared. If you have the room then putting like 5-7 in together will help them all be less shy.
