Firefish

Has anyone had any luck breeding firefish? I may have an opportunity to get a pair of helfrich firefish(very expensive) and was curious if anyone has any info.

I searched google only finding one hit where someone had a batch lay eggs, but they were eaten. Unfortunately my premium membership will take a couple days to go through so I cannot search the breeding forum. RC is just to popular now adays.

Anyway any info would be greatly appreciated. I doubt I would get the pair, but the firefish in general are so common I thought someone may have tried them.

Thanks

Scott

Purples have been reported to spawn in captivity, but I'm not sure if they were raised. As far as I know, they are the only Firefish reported to have spawned in captivity. I am currently experimenting with a trio of red Fire's.

I had a pair that exhibited outwards behavior signs of spawning, but never actually witnessed any spawning or larvae. Lost one of the pair due to a jump after living happily without incident in an uncovered tank for over a year.

A "trio"? It's my understanding that firefish are more or less monogamous pair bonders...

I have a trio because, as far as I know, there are no visual descrepencies between male and female? I was hoping to have two split off and go from there.
