First anemone

You're tank is not quite mature enough for an anemone yet. Also the lighting will definitely not be sufficient. It may look "ok" in the short term, but it will eventually fade away.

I would advise researching requirements on livestock BEFORE you buy them ;). Read through info online like this: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/btasysfaqs.htm .

I would go ahead and return it for now, then come back to it when you're tank is ready and you've learned a little more about them.

Good luck!

Well if my anemone doesn’t live the lfs has officially lost ALL busies, it’s the same store that I bought all my stuff form lights and anemone from when I was first starting off I told the owner I have a 20 and need lights he’s the one that suggested the lighting unit, knowing that I planed on keeping a BTA I still remember as I was leaving with the light unit him saying “your anemone will be very happy light kit “
Lol what a joke
I think some one doesn’t know his stuff

But im not putting all the blame on the lfs and the guy there im the one who agreed to buy it and should have done more reading
O well just another learning experience its not like i would loose that much $

also i got the water tested and another lfs and i just have almost Undetectable levels of ammonia

Your tank isn't capable of keeping an anemone happy and by the sounds of it, your lack of experience isn't helping much.
Stop moving the thing around so much, you're stressing it out even further. Leave it alone and make sure it doesn't get sucked up into any powerheads.
Your tank is not cycled.

His tank is cycled.. 3 months? I think so... I think the lack of experience in the hobby is hurting you most right now. You should probably just try to return this anemone just to ensure it does not die... wait it out, read more and get a better understanding of anemones, how they work, what they require. Before that, I'd suggest doing more research on tank paramaters, what causes ammonia, nirtrites, etc... because IMO, after 3 months.. it should be undetectable. A lack of water changes, excess feeding, along with other factors may be causing your ammonia. I would have to disagree with the people saying your tank is not cycled. In reality, a tank does not take this long to cycle.. so if it is, you got some nasty rock or something...

A gaping mouth is a sign of poor health, an open mouth.. still not a good sign. If it's just slightly open, then that would be acceptable..(only if it's open for a short period of time) but a healthy , thriving anemone has a puckered up mouth pretty much all the time.

Do not handle the anemone, if you are... leave it be. If it's staying attatched, then that's good.. if it keeps blowing around and detatching, I'd say return him.. 10$ is 10$ .. and you shouldn't risk the life of the anemone just because "it wasn't that expensive" .. it still doesn't justify letting it perish because of lack of research/experience.

If I were you, only if you can't return that anemone, I would get some amquel to lower that ammonia, that is probably your best bet instead of stressing it with all the water changes. Good luck

ya i think i mght here are some pics i just took of it...i think its starting to do a little better

How did the anemone get on the glass? When you said you placed him there did you just let it attach itself by placing it near there?

Very sorry about your LFS. I know you'll be upset if things don't work out well.... but you should know that most LFSs are like that. Its not that they will always right out lie to you, but they want the customer to feel as if anything they want to do is possible. They never want you to be discouraged, etc.

Best thing to do from now on is: either do your research ahead of time, pick out what you want... and then go into the store. Or, if you like observing things first like I do... go to the store, see what you like, then go home and research everything and THEN go back in and buy things if they are adequate for your tank and you're ready to handle them.

If this anemone doesn't work out, you can focus on other livestock for now. When you have more experience and some better equipment in the future you can definitely go back and get another one.

Good luck!

a light upgrade would probabuly help this situation i have a quaeston

since i have this http://www.thatpetplace.com/Product...es/T1/F38AA+0434+0050/EDP/44115/Itemdy00.aspx

and its not enough if i were to get a retrofit kit for it to make it 2x62w would i buy this http://www.thatpetplace.com/Product...es/T1/F38AB+0434+0015/EDP/42636/Itemdy00.aspx and just scrap what i have now

or can i some how add this in http://www.thatpetplace.com/Product...es/T1/F38AB+0434+0010/EDP/42631/Itemdy00.aspx and keep what i have

If you are going to add that 1x65w retro, you will probably need to build your self a hood tomount it, it might be easier to just get the 2x65W reto, put them in a hood and sell the old one.

if at all possible i would go with MH i have RBTA and i have had it for about 5 months and it has spilt 4 times all ready and i havent lost a one it great for taking to the lfs to trade for corals when i bought it it was about 2-3 in in diamiter

Get the metal halides if you can. then you can have any coral you want!

Is that much more accurate than his LFS that said what he bought would allow him to have any anemone he wanted?

LOL, Sorry. Not trying to hammer on you. But he's obviously learning, and can see an impression of "Get a metal halide, and all is covered", just to read a thread later on why everything fried.

4 Splits

Splits are not necessarily a good thing. BTA's tend to split due to stress. Four splits in 5 months is way too many IMO.
