First attempt and raising baby snowflakes.

I actually scored a deal with my LFS to by my babies. Only issue is they wanna give me $15 to $20 a fish but they will buy almost all if not all of them. What you think? Is it worth it to sell privately or just off load them and keep a constant rotation of them?
 
its not a bad deal if they buy them all the time,id try to get a little more by grading them
the high grade you may be able to sell privately.all depends how much time you have
 
Yeah. I've been tinting my water pretty good for the first few days. Then I let the rotifers clear it out slowly and on day 3 I start the otohime. My 3rd batch is on otohime and fresh brine and their a week old.

That seems great. If you are at all good at raising them, you'll soon be overloaded with young. Finding a local place to take them is BIG.

Keeping a few premium fry to sell mail order at a good price might be smart if you don't mind the extra work of shipping. Of course it's a different business and might not appeal to you as much.
 
I know nothing when it comes to shipping. Any advice or knowledge would be helpful. I have a few people already asking me to ship and I haven't shipped items like this before. .
 
Just got my brood stock moved into the setup and now it's just a eating game....also can't wait till I get the skimmer I'm waiting on....looks like a couple weeks out but for now this will do ;)

I'd say sell them to the LFS it's a guaranteed sale and u don't have to do upkeep on the fish while waiting on the online business to pick up....once online picks up ship some that way
And the other thing is, the LFS doesn't know how many fry u have, stache a few for ur self/online

You could practice with a couple of culls. Bag 'em, box 'em and let them sit in the living room for 48 hrs. If they live, that should work for shipping. Cold weather might need another test. :)

Personally, I find shipping a PIA. I ship DVDs (don't have to worry about life forms!) and it's amazing how some people will just try to scam you. Also unless you are shipping lots, it might take a while to recover startup costs.
 
Congrats on your breeding success. I have finally succeeded in rearing my Banggai Cardinals. Now I want to work on attaining a couple brood pairs and try breeding clowns.

Any good advice for a newbie breeding clowns?
 
Make sure you have everything ready. I lost a lot on my first try because my rotifer culture crashed. Just make sure you have all the needed foods and supplies and don't half *** it. You won't be successful if you do.
 
Well I don't want to get rots and such going just yet becuz I just got the stock settled and it could be a few months before I even get a batch....I plan on letting the first couple batches go so that I am 100 ready for the 3rd batch
 
Mine just laid another batch the other day. I'm gonna do this batch also. Hoping I have my breeder setup ready within the next day or two. I just need a light and protein skimmer. .
