that would be the canon rebel xti, correct? my pics don't come out like that good. i even bought couple bigger lens with macro and still i know it can be better, guess i better seek help..

Hoang - you expect me to come take pics for you after you put down my corals... you should have done that after i came by. I guess you'll just have to use your 35mm to take pics for now... sorry buddy haha.
John - haha, FTS are no fun... its all about the macro now! and plus like hoang said, my corals are brown so I definitely don't want to show that haha.
Loc - of course, its the least I can do for all the time you put on my skimmer.
Richard - thanks! I was reading the instruction manual at work today inbetween clients haha.

CW - the macro is an awesome lense, i was never able to get this close with a point and shoot camera. Its worth it IMO.

Great first time shots, Yinger! I've got the same camera/lens combo....I'm still learning how to use it. For quick shots I like to put into Aperture priority mode, AWB, on a tripod, with the self-timer to minimize camera shake. Here's the same shot with different aperatures, notice the difference in the depth of field...

Glaudds - I'm gonna have to try that. I'm trying to learn how to adjust the white balance right now because with phoenixes, the pics all come out blue. Thanks for the compliment. Your pics look awesome! how did far is your camera from the coral when taking pics like that?

I've tried the manual white balance and I can't get the colors to look right...maybe it's combination of my lighting and the background I'm setting it to. The AWB works the best for me.
In that particular picture, the coral was about 8 inches from the end of the lens. I try to get as close to the tank glass as possible, assuming the subject is within the focal range of the lense.

if you like i can show you what my 200.00 cannon powershot with new 52 macro lense to compare. i to still am tweaking with the white balance but the underwater mode works ok. i just don't want to hijack you. your pics are better too.=)

here are two pictures of some acans that came out ok. as you see i am still fighting with the white balance. need to put camera on a tripod. i am too shakey. these were top down with water off and not photo box. the pictures i did not edit as well it seems that colors drift everytime i try.

i am much happier with my camera with the lense. i figure i need to learn some more about photography before i step up with a real camera

This is my favorite piece. Before I adjusted the "F" I couldnt get really close with the lens that I had. I could only get a small part to focus.
Now I adjusted the F and it looks much better.
I just need to get a tri-pod now.

for the second pic what do your have you shutterspeed at ? or do you have it on AV mode?
you guys should not really need a tripod because MH is like daylight. If you open up the aperture and use a lower ISO this should work.
I only use tripods if its a low low low light picture and the shutter need too be open longer. you can't hold the camera for longer shutterspeed shots because you will get camera shake.
With my samsung NV10 I get blurred shots because I can't set any shutterspeeds setting or aperture lol and the flow of the tank creates action shots which I can't really get with my camera ( hence making it blurred lol) .its just a point in shoot camera but the light from the tank is bright enough.
