you got a crocea, and it's a beautiful clam at a bargain! I am not sure what are you trying to pinpoint in the squre thing. But it looks generally healthy.

Crocea - and should be fine as long as you make sure to keep Ca/Alk up. Luckily croceas are the slowest growing, so they won't suck it up as quickly as many other species.

i was pointing to the lighter part of the mantle after looking at it some more i found an apeastia right under the mantle i think the stinging from the anemone is causing the discoloration. can anyone with more experiacne chime in? also just so i know, how is it that you guys know its corcea? what are the you guys looking at that lets you know?

You can tell the type mostly from the shell, and also the mantle pattern is that of a common crocea. The shell is the best way to tell though. You will be fine with him in your tank. I don't know how tall your tank is, if it is pretty tall move him higher up in the tank. Crocea's are the most light demanding of the tridacnids. Also, they like to be on the rocks, as opposed to being in the substrate. Good luck and congrats on the great buy!
