Hello everyone went to the LFS today to get a Royal Gramma for my tank. They had this coral frag for $5 the guy said it was a soft coral, but not sure exactly what type. He said soft corals are best for beginners so needless to say i went home with my Gramma and this little coral. I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify what type of soft coral this little guy is.

AKA weed that if left to it's own, will overgrow every available space in your tank. (not in my tank - I won't have it tyvm)
Not that it can't be pretty - my wife wants to get some every time she sees it - you just have to keep on top of it so that it doesn't get out of hand

Sure would be nice if some of these LFS would be more informative about corals... and not looking just to sell. I would take the coral back, but that's me. My LFS has gotten me for a few "junk" corals too so don't feel bad. If I see a coral I like, I ask questions: what are the light and flow needs, how to feed, how does it grow, propagate/spread, water needs etc.. I also take a second to do a quick web search while at the store to verify. Plus I do a lot of surfing so I can familiarize myself with what is out there, and what the values are so I know when I'm getting a good deal.
