First Cuttlefish!!

I've had a slight cuttlefish obsession since I don't know when and am planning on ordering 3 eggs soon within the next few weeks. I've been doing my fair share of research and I will probably use brine shrimp and ghost shrimp as food. I could really use a couple tips if anybody has any. Thanks!

Have you tried mysid shrimp? That seems to be the consensus on cuttle foods. I don't think brine works very well.

fosters and smith announced tank raised cuttle's at MACNA (coming soon). Don't know if you might want to wait on that, or pay what might be a premium price, but it might help your chances of success.

You could buy a LOT of eggs for what LQ allegedly is going to charge for a tank raised cuttlefish.

Perhaps though, that is their exact point.

they are on their site now. $149. now, i agree thats a lot of eggs, but add in the uncertainty of the eggs and the live food to get them to shipping size, and it seems 'almost' fair. add in that captive bred are likely to have a higher tolerance to captive conditions and to me it does seem fair. of course, that doesn't mean i'd pay that, just that i think they haven't set an exhorbatant price.

Don't use brine. Get weekly shipments of mysis/mysids and order them until you can get them onto the shore shrimp.

I lost all mine (14) within a week of switching to frozen. I wish I didn't cheap out.

I think $150 dollars is a completely reasonable price for captive bred Cuttlefish. You will spend $80 a month, per Cuttle, on live Mysid shrimp, in the first 3 months, raising them from eggs.
