first fish for the 90

love pep. shrimp I use for manjo and aptasia control. you cant find one. Used to have too many to count. I also like the cleaner shrimp for ich/parasite control. a must in a tank. again send a full tank shot

CheckinHawk,

I really like Powder Blue tangs too. Great looking fish. Glad he is eating and doing well. I am debating about getting one or a yellow tang for my current tank. I want a powder blue, but I understand yellow tangs normally survive better and they are cheaper. (-:

Good luck,
Chris

How sad is this, I am up here at Solitude Utah logged into
reef central. I crashed and burn yesterday messed up my ankle and leg pretty bad, but the good news is nothing is broken.

good luck with the powder blue. I love them. I have had mine 2 years. what other fish do you have? They are very territorial and if you attempt to add fish once he has been there for any length of time you may have a problem.

Gorgeous Powder Blue, in my experience I have to agree with fancyfish, that fish is going to beat the crap out of any fish you add to the tank. If it survives the beating after a couple of days or weeks the newbie will either act normal like nothing ever happened or it will never come out of the rock work. I hope you get lucky but IMO you should have added him last just from my experience and what I have read about the Powder Blues.

P.S. The rock looks great :D

Got any full tank shots of this guy? PS what time you heading over to FAIOS? I am heading up there around 5pm today.

PS is your tank running a closed loop?

yeah i know they are aggressive but i had to do it.i just added a sixline wrasse and he seems to be ok for the moment.the tang is checking him out but no aggression showed.sorry to here about your spill hawkster, hope it at least happened after you got some good runs in.no FTS yet cause the lights arent up yet.i just got back from FAIOS and purchased my lights.yes i am running a closed loop,it is a dart pump and homemade 6 way oceansmotion.

The Hawk'ster
sorry about your accident. I am assuming you were skiing. could be worse. my younger son plays travel Ice hockey. He and his dad were in quebec for a week of hockey, skiing etc. the very first day he was in his 2nd game and got checked from behind. He broke his radial bone---displaced fx so basically in half. spent the night in the hospital and flew home the next day. has been in a cast since---up to his shoulder. No highschool hockey, travel hockey or highschool lacrosse for the remainder of the year :(
The money I spent could have bought me an additional 180 with all the bells and whistles.
Hope this makes you feel a bit better

Nice lights checkinhawk! You are on your way now. I have to say after seeing your powder blue in person today - I want one! What a beautiful fish.

thanks reefartist:) i ended up getting a nice sized acro and a sixline wrasse as well.

the wrasse hasnt had a problem with the tang at all,i saw them swimming next to each other earlier.plus since im going to be adding more rock i figure the tang wont be as aggressive as normal when adding fish at same time.

That's a nice look wrasse and very nice acro - BIG! Do you have your lights up yet?

Yea, I think if you add some rock at the same time you add new fish - the tang will be much calmer. I just added two new Green Clown Gobies - they're just getting adjusted to their tank buddies (Clowns). Now I have a tank of clowns :D

i have them setup but nothing permanent yet.i need to get some 1x2s to make a frame to hold everything.the acro is bigger than a baseball and very fuzzy.i threw a small sps frag into the 90 to see how it does.

ok hawkster you were right, the powder blue is a bully.i just threw in a copperband butterfly and as soon as the tang saw him he started chasing him all over the tank.i ended up catching the tang and thowing him into my refuge for now.im thinking if i leave him in the refuge for a week or so that i can add him back in and the butterfly will be fine.anyone have any advice on this?

That actually sounds good checkinhawk. You also could change the rocks around also before you put him in - he'll think it's a new place-IMO. I'd make sure the copperband has a good hiding place before putting him back into the tank. Will the powder blue be OK in the refugium? Might put a cover (Egg crate) just temporarily- better to be safe than sorry. Of course you always could loan him to me :D. Congrats on the copperband - I love those fish and you're the one that got me addicted! Will the copperband be OK with your corals?

i did move the rocks some before i added him in but that didnt stop the assault.i have to add into the 90 my last 25 lbs or so of liverock from my 37.at that point i think the tank will be alot different to the tang.hopefully this will calm him down.right now the butterfly is cruising around the tank with no worries.i turned off the lights to calm him down, and it seems to have worked.the powder is in my fuge.

I have a ten or twenty gallon tank you can borrow, it has a filter system and everything. Complete setup if you need it - not a problem.

no need for that,i think a week of time out for the tang will do the trick.he will learn not to mess with the alphamale :D here is the copperband.

Oh he's sooooo cute and he looks so little - Get everything finished I might have to come over and take a few pics. We can make him look real BIG

fancyfish

I was skiing, and a little boarding. Damn, I hope your son is doing well:)

checkinhawk,

At least you were able to catch the powder and have another tank to put him in, I learned the hard way. Add all your passive fish before you put the Powder back in. What is the copperband eating? I am home now so if you want pm me if you are still thinking about that project.
