First fish that eats algae for a 450g?

I will be adding a fish to my 450g finally (near 8 months now with just coral... lonely in there :fish1: ).

I don't have a ton of algae, but have a little that is kind of a sore eye, so something that likes to eat algae is preferred. I need something that is also going to be generally peaceful around other various reef fish down the road also.

I was thinking perhaps a Naso Tang? Any other recommendations?

Naso is the best choice for aggression, not sure about algae. You could get 2 algae blennys that would take care of most all algae. Not very colorful but will definitely eat algae

My lawnmower blennie is my favorite fish to watch. Certainly not as colorful as other tropical fish but he most definitely makes up for his looks with his personality

You could always get a Lawnmower and Starry Blenny, both eat algae. Both of those fish are fun to watch.

Sounds silly, but I have about a dozen mollies in my tank (180g.) They are a little distracting, but are such an awesome cleanup crew. They pick algae off rocks, out of sand and will make certain all uneaten food is gone from my tank. They also spawn like crazy, which leaves fry for my Haitian anemone.

450 gal tank need a small army of small herbivores to keep clean. I would choose 5 tangs and a Fox face of various combinations, including most if not all of the Genus of tangs and surgeon fishes. I would avoid the Naso because I think they get too big.

Our Tomini is our hardest working algae eater, he never stops.
I love our Naso but I would not call him a hard worker by any stretch, more likely to glide around and look pretty.
But you have a 450 so the more the merrier!

IMO, two blennies will not eat all your algae in a 450 gal tank.

I don't have much algae, just in a few dead spot areas, so I figure a pair of blenny's should be able to do a good amount of damage. I bought a bunch of hermits to help but my hitchhiked team of stone crabs have devoured them.

I think I am going to go Naso + 2 Blenny's. The first fish will be added on my daughters one year birthday, so wanted a special fish for it. Not that Blenny's wouldn't entertain her, but the Naso would be a more appropriate prize fish for the occasion.

Crab trap. Hermits make for interesting watching.
Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crab (Clibanarius sp.) and Dwarf Zebra Hermit Crab (Calcinus laevimanus)are listed as strictly herbivores whereas Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab (Paguristes cadenati) are listed as Herbivore, Omnivore.

Take this with a grain of salt since I've witnessed my Dwarf Zebra chow down on a couple of 1"+ shrimp.

A good mix of snails, hermits and a few algae eating fish makes for diversity. In a tank that big, a large CUC might be helpful.

Mollies are great. I have them in my freshwater and saltwater tanks! The only downside is that they poop more than the average freshwater fish, but for salt, they seem on par and marine tanks have significantly more filtration. Plus, like you said- they are a constant source of live food as they spawn.

I won't go for 2 lawnmower blennies because one would kill the other no matter your tanks is 450g.. A naso, lawnmower blenny and kole tang are fish I would recommend.. btw never just add 1 fish only. It will feel threatened because it doesn't see other fish, thinking those are hiding because some predator is nearby.
