First Fish! - YWG

I know he's not much in terms of super exciting, beautiful or rare fish; but he's my first, so I like him.

Here he is chillin' in the QT tank waiting for acclimation

So far he's just explored the tank and "burrowed" under the PVC wye I put in the tank for a hiding spot. He's also eating well and just generally lounging around in his new temporary home.

I am surprised by how much he actually likes to swim around when the lights are on. He's also quite photogenic; but he never seems to want to smile...

Cool fish!
The first fish is always a special time! Just don't over feed the first one like I did and polluted the water....
Always great to hear when people are using QT for new fish!

Thanks! I am trying to not overfeed, I've done 1/8th of a frozen cube the last two feedings and even that might be too much. I try to use a turkey baster to suck up any uneaten food when he's done.

Great fish. I love my YWG. Are you going to get him a shrimp?

Most certainly!! I plan on introducing the shrimp once he goes into the DT, because I don't think the shrimp would appreciate the bare glass bottom and also I am toying with the idea of prophylactically treating with hypo while he's in QT.

Any recommendations on this practice? I am also thinking of doing a 7 day treatment of PraziPro as a preventative. What are the pros/cons of each?

prizi and moniter. no need to use a med if you dont suspect anything. there is varying schools of thought on this but this is what i reccomend. do research to decide for yourself

I would only suggest hypo to those with some experience under their belt, you must be very accurate and consistent and hold it at a specific level for it to work; to high won't work, to low will kill the fish.
As reefjunkie said, Prazipro and monitoring is sufficient. Prazipro is good stuf IME when used as directed.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll just go with a PraziPro treatment regime and monitor.

In case anyone wanted another pic...
