First Frog

small alien

The fungus is among us.
Greetings Friends. I acquired a beautiful little red angler yesterday after seeing it eat a peppermint shrimp like nobody's business. It's in my established 10 gallon QT with live sand and live rock. It looks healthy to me though may need to put on a little weight. I don't know how fat they should look. And I don't know the species. Here's a couple shots. As you can see, it's about the size of my thumb with tail. About 1 1/2 inches with tail.

I'll be working to ween it over to non-live foods. I grabbed some guppies and set up a quick little 5g for them. Also, I'll order some live ghost shrimp I believe they're called. I'll be referencing Greg's food stick method for food training. Any tips are welcome. Cheers, the small one

I just picked up a black one yesterday the same size. He's a fatty. Looks like a big black balloon lol. I'll be feeding ghost shrimp along with my fuzzy. Hopefully they'll both wean easy.

Atm it's in the 12g with my fuzzy. I'd probably lose it if it was in anything bigger. I haven't fed it yet. I'm hoping it'll hang out by my black sun coral sas they are both deep black in color. I'll post some pics later of it.

Hello,

Do not feed it to often, he will die otherwise because the food will rot in its belly as the digestion is quite slow for those fish. Considering the size of your Antennarius Pictus i would recommend that you don't give him more than 2 guppies a week.

Frogfish do require special attention.
Sometimes they die for no reason.

Later.

Best I could do, even with the flash it's hard to see his eyes and mouth

Lightened this one up all the way so you could see the details in a grainy manner

Are both fish A. pictus?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks. I couldn't resist him/her. I love how black it is. It's just hanging out in a crevice on my rock wall kind of like my fuzzy does.

Nice pics must be frog season I picked one up on sat that's tiny. Mine has the white toes and is black with orange speckles. It's got a definite lure. I'll try to get pics. It's in my 12 g right now with a wasp. It's had one guppy so I have a few days before I need to worry about food again. Could not resist this little guy but definitely agree less food would be better right now considering how small it is. :)

Those pics are amazing.

I can't believe my luck. I had some frozen krill and I rinsed one and put it in front of the frog with a pair of chop sticks. I tried to wiggle it and then it fell and drifted past the frog and, Bam!, chow time. I'd say those guppies are feeling a lot better right about now. :)

I've tried frozen twice, and the first time he bit it but spit it out, and the second time he just ignored it. Bringing home Ghost shrimp isn't to big of a deal for me since I need live for my Leaf anyway, and I get it for free, so that helps. ;)

Well the frog fish didn't make it. I found it dead this morning. Haven't tested the params, but the fuzzy seems fine so I don't know what happened.

Sad = sudden angler death. It's happened to me before, parameters were fine no other apparent cause etc. Sorry to hear about yours.

Hello,

that's why i mentionned earlier they can die very easily, i keep some for months/year. but only few last long time.

The food is very important according to me and even if they look placid, those fish can stress out very quickly and die suddenly (SAD).
