First In-Tank death... :(

Hello guys,

Have the tank up since Oct and today I had my first In-Tank death. It was a Yellow Striped Angel. It was ok this morning until about noon when I walked by the tank and saw its corpse tangled in my H Magnifica anemone.
She is hosting 2 smaller clowns so I really doubt she went after the angel, I assume he was drifting and somehow got stuck in it.
The angel was fat and pretty, no sighs of fights or any other injury. This sudden death is pretty strange.

Could it be that the nem took a swipe at it when he got too close?...I have no clue.
 
The anemone "swiping" at it is pretty unlikely because they cant see, I would guess that it died due to parameters or something else in your tank. Were there any signs of a parasite or did you see it gasping at all?
 
Fish either swam into the anemone while dying or current carried the dead fish into the anemone. Only anemone that I know that can actively hunt live prey as large as a dwarf angel is carpet anemones, end even that is pretty rare. They sometimes hunt fish perching on them by quickly folding over them, but that wont happen with actively swimming fish. Magnifica is not an anemone even capable of that.

What are your water parameters, and did you take any pictures of the dead fish, or any pictures few days ago?
 
Didn't take a pic because it did look normal to my eyes No damage to its body or fins, normal shape (not skinny), no odd spots. It did had a bit of a slimy substance on its skin. Not sure if that is normal in a dead fish or if it came from the anemone tentacles.
 
You have 3 threads on the front page now about stuff dying in your tank. Hate to state the obvious but that is not a good sign. Prams looked fine from the other post, but there might be a problem in the water still. Drawing a blank but there is an item you can put in your water, it will absorb any metals or other chems and turn a color, I'm sure someone will help me recall the name....

Cuprisorb? I've never used it and don't know entirely what it is or who makes it, but I've seen the name thrown around on the forum before.

That does work, there is one that is a pad that changes colors, why can't I remember the name?!?!?! lol


EDIT: Its polyfilter guys, I remembered!

Any chances of finding out if I actually have something weird in my water before I try to remove it?
Nothing odd has made it in the tank that I know of so chances are high that if I do in fact have something in, it'll go back in again if I don't know what it is.
I'll get the poly and start running it anyways.
