I just got a small cleaner crew tonight, and so far so good. They went right to work on my algae and are doing a good job. I bought 6 astreas and 2 nassarius'. I didnt want to add too much because I am concerned about a bio load. But when do you all think I should add my first fish?

ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrates 0
ph 8.2

And sg where it is suppose to be as well. My tank went through 2 good weeks of a cycle and got an algea bloom. I dont want to rush anything, but really hope I can get a fish sometime soon.

Any advice?

Many reefers start with algae blennies. ( lawnmowers ) they are not particularly difficult and do a decent job on the short stuff. Other popular additions are rabbitfish which are also good at algae control, ( watch the dorsal spines though). Tangs are nice addtions but can be quite territorial so make that choice last.
I am a little cautious of the zero nitrate reading... if there was an ammonia spike then the end result would have been some register of nitrate. Did you water change the tank to reduce nitrates to zero? If not, then add fish slowly, ie. 1 fish every two to three weeks and let the tank build up it's bio capacity. Good luck!

I did have a nitrate reading, the kit I used showed 5.0, and then I followed some advice given that I should do a small water change. In which I did. Thanks for the Information.

Be careful of some of the fish mentioned above. Tangs are notorious for getting Ich. They also need LOTS of swimming room and I'm not sure a 55 is going to be large enough...even for some of the smaller tanks. Rabbit fish was also mentioned, along with the warning to watch out for their venomous fin rays...IMO, they also get too large and a 55 is borderline enough tank. Algae or Lawnmower Blennys are great...as long as you can feed them. Many won't take any food other than algae that's growing in your tank. More questions are in order I think. Is this going to be a FOWLR or a Reef tank? What types of fish are you interested in? If you have a few fish in mind, study up on each of them. Also, make sure that if one particular species is known to be a lil' more aggressive than the others, the aggressive species is the LAST one introduced into the tank. As far as your snails go, good choice, although I don't know that the Nassarius will really do that much for you. They aren't really known for going after algae. They're more of a sand sifter and detritus eater. Watch out as they're also carnivorous and it's not uncommon for them to kill eachother or other snails. I wouldn't really worry to much about your bio-load with snails. They really don't add much. I'd also agree with above and maybe wait another week or 2 of 0 ammonia readings. Take that week to do some research into what types of fish you'd like to have in your tank. Then, once you've got a list of "Wants," come back for more advice...if you haven't figured it out on your own. This forum has all kinds of great research tools. Have fun with it!!! Most of all, I know you're in a hurry to get your first fish. It's hard to sit there and look at an empty tank for weeks on end...however, be cautious, be patient...it's the best way to go. It's the best way to insure success!! Good Luck!! READ A LOT
