First Lay

Hello All,

I recently broke down my reef because of health issues, but kept a small tank running with my clowns.
I'm glad my friend convinced me not to sell them because this happened.

This is their first lay and all the eggs look fertile. Look at all the little eyes. :D
I don't know that I will have time to rise them because of my schedule, but maybe I'll give it a try.

The proud parents.

Nice looking fish. Where in n Jersey are you? I used to live in Morris county & my brother was in Sussex.

Here is an old video of the pair.

This is the second time they spawn. I haven't gotten to that part yet.
I'm going to glue a tile on to the spot that they lay on. Hopefully they will lay on the tile so I can remove it before the eggs hatch.

how do you remove the eggs from the rock? Or do you just leave them on the rock?

2 general methods that I'm aware of for collecting/hatching clown larvae. 1) leave the eggs in the parent tank and collect the hatchlings on hatch night. 2) If the parents lay on something that can be removed (small rock, tile, or pot - typically) pull the substrate last moment and place it in the fry tank to let them hatch. (Usually requires air flow to keep the eggs healthy and bouncing to my understanding).

Nice looking pair! Raising fry is pretty tedious, I would make sure you have a solid rotifer culture going, for some people that can be challenging in its own.
