Just a shot of my tank I am playing with the camera and trying to learn how to post. Thanks, Scott

Ahhh the Garden City. Used to live there ...well on Ft. Gordon anyway. That's a very nice setup. I really like your stand. And my wife would be asking about your bird cage;) . Any closer pics or maybe of the sump area? Good job.

Sure no problem. I madt the stand and hood to satisfy the wifes requirement that the tank look like her furniture. It was my first attempt so it was WAY over built and heavy. I will get a few more pics up in a minute. Stay tuned!

I see you eyeballin those parrots chickenhawk! TASTY!!..LOL Thanks that was the way wifey wanted so thats the way it is. I like it because I don't see other's like it. I have built a stand for a 92 gal corner for a guy here on RC You should go check out his gallery. minireefer03. Wood doesn't like to bend 45 degrees!!

Wow! Seeing what you're using for a stand for the 55 scares me! In California, eartquake country, we could never even THINK of something so minimalistic. We have to plan for torsional movement, in addition to the standard weight of the aquarium.

I agree however we don't seem to get the quakes here . That was the stand that came with the 55. We weren't going to set it up at all when a friend gave it to us. We went to a club meeting at the local fish store and won several of the door prizes, 3 MJ 1200,s, a wave maker strip, and best of all, a 48" PC light! When we got home the wife said "what else do we need for the 55 ?I would like it in the bedroom and It will be 'my' tank." I bought the skimmer and she was in business! I was hoping she wouldn't send me back into the shop to build another one of those monster stands like the one in the living room!LOL I am sure that's exactly what is going to happen before it's over with !

Dude that is awesome... Great woodwork on the main room tank. Cool that you keep birds. too! My favorite is the second one, looks like a killer to me. :D

Thanks war . The second bird is "REY REY" She is actually the sweetest of all. She's an African Grey and has an awsome vocabulary! She just looks a little rough in the pic because she had a bath tonight (In the shower with me!) The Green one (Queeney) Is the killer! I can't take her out unless I am the only one in the house! She will go after anyone else she sees and she HATES ALL FEMALES! My wife and daughters can't even get close to her. We got her as a 911 refugee. Evidently her owner was one of the victims in the towers. She has had a rough go of it. We don't have any info on her and no idea of her age.

How did you do the woodwork? That is just amazing. I did a little work on a 36" tall stand for a 20G Long planted FW tank of mine and I only put on wall trim, stained and polyurethaned it. I can't imagine the time it took you to do all of that nice work.

Is that crown molding?

Yea. I just spent alot of time (and $$) at Home Depot! It really is only 2 boxes dressed up with alot of moulding and crown. There is a thread at the top of the DIY thread about "HOOD SUGGESTIONS" A guy there offered pics of his and it is AWESOME!

familyreefer: I'm going up and down, back and forth, up and down again. I don't know what to look at first, the birds, the fish, the stand. All I can say is Wow!!! You did an excellent job on that stand. I'm amazed when I see folks with that kind of talent. If I just pick up a hammer, my wife and son look at each other as if to say "Uh oh!" :eek2:

If you don't mind me asking, did you get the cages locally or online? It's late, but I can't wait to show my wife your birds. Thanks for sharing.

I built the cages!!!LOL Just kidding! There are two bird shows in the area each year. We wait for these shows to buy our cages. There is a wholesaler there each time and that takes the middle man out. Believe it or not we get the $600-700 cages(pet store prices) from them for about $379 . (The large cage next to the tank) We have to keep Coa-Coa over there because she is a little skittish when the other guys start their loud chatter. The Sun Conyer yelps and the Amazon yells "Shut Up" and this is repeated for many minutes each morning around 7AM! Coa Coa is just across the room from the others so she can still "converse" if she chooses but she is quite reserved, as most Cockatoos are. Very loving though and she loves to cuddle. We rescued all of the birds except for Mickey the Sun. He was our first and look what it started!
