First Reef attempt started......

Well I was going to do this with the 40"x40"x24" cube but things failed with it from the get go so I decided to go with a standard RR 120.

Its been running for a month and a half with LR and LS from the 200gallon tank I had running as a FOWLR along with all the filtration equipment from it.

I dont have any pics of it before any fish where added or corals. So I will get some pics tonight after the corals have been adjusted and same with the new fish.

So far there is:

Juvi Mac Angel (will be removed since it grows to large for this size tank)
Pacific Pygmy Angel
Trio of Solar Fairy Wrasse
Kole Tang

As far as coral goes I will need help on ID of them as they came as a frag pack from RHS.

Also come friday there will be the cute little Gray Poma Angel Juvi from BZ
http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productdetailcc.asp?did=11&cid=360&pid=6468

Along with a candy cane coral frag and a trio of Lubbocks wrasse.

Alright got the new lights on the tank and boy is there a big difference.

Also all 3 Solar Fairy Wrasses are out swimming about and ate very well when I fed.

I didnt notice the Kole Tang eating the food but it is constantly picking at the rockwork.

Also now with a question as to mounting the coral frags to my wet LR that is in the tank? How would yall go about doing it without removing the rockwork?

So what do yall think of this stocklist for the tank?

1 Gray Poma Angel
1 Pacific Pygmy Angel (thought about adding one of for a pair. Let me know what you think)
1 Kole Tang
Trio of Solar Fairy Wrasses
Trio of Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse

If you think I can add more please give me some suggestions.

The angles will limit what you can put in the tank coral wise.

As far as fixing sps frags to rock, I just use what ever cheap superglue gel thats on sale. Turn off all your pumps goop a bunch on the bottom of the frag put it in the water on the rock and hold it there for 2 minutes. then let go and let sit for another 5 minutes or so then you can turn the pumps back on.

I know the risks of the Angel. But thank you for the warning.

About the superglue gel. So just the cheapest I can get at the nearest Dollar Store would work?

Well alittle update is due and everything is still going great even with the tiny Juvi Gray Poma Angel everyone was worried about.

Things are going in the tank. The only thing I am trying to fgure out is why some of the sps isnt opening up like it was so I checked some things and this is what it shows.

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
KH - 15
Ca - 460

I dont have a mag test so please recommend one. Any other test I need to be running?

I retested the dKh and it was still at 15 last night. I dont have a Mag test kit but on the back of the additive it stated that it can help bring down the dKh so I am giving it a 1 time shot to see if it will.

Anyone with a response to this?

I am thinking of adding a Radiant Wrasse and the Yellow Coris Wrasse.

Sounds like a good start. You need to figure out whats going on with the dkh. I wouldn't add anything else yet. Your fish list is fine for a 180. In fact I bet you'll have plenty of room for even more fish if your filtration can handle the bioload. Good luck.

Out of curisosity are you using Coralife salt? I read on another thread that coralife salt has a bad batch out there with very high dkh...

I dont have the money at the moment to buy another thing of salt online. I am paying for all of my state board stuff for nursing and that aint cheap.

I tested the dKh this morning and it was at 12 so the dosing of mag lowered it some.

Should I dose mag again even though I dont have a mag test kit?

I need some recommendations on Some test kits besides the standard ones that come in the API reef set.

Well I am thinking of trying a different salt mix when I get down to the end of the Instant Ocean bucket I have.

So here is what I am considering:

Seachem Reef Salt
Seachem Marine Salt
AB Reef Salt by Aqua Medic
D-D H2Ocean Magnesium Pro PLUS
Brightwell Aquatics
NeoMarine Reef & Marine

Let me know what you think of the above and your experiences with them?
