first SW tank build

Hey ReefRandy had a Spectrapure R/O unit for only $25, with Meter I believe totally worth checking out! The other covered topics I would just be redundant! I am in the process of staining a very similar 125 for my wifes PIG of a Porcupine! Good LUCK with yours!

I have a couple of questions on how to setup my sump that i have or if i should buy one from the dollar per gallon sale and make a new one. I have a mag 9 and a Deltec skimmer also have 2 heaters that will fit in sump was thinking 1 in sump 1 in DT. Everyone's comments and help are greatly appreciated.

I'd put both heaters in the sump. No reason to have a heater in the overflow. Also that sump is considered a "wet/dry". Its made to put bio-balls above the eggcrate and have the water trickel down them. Nitrate factory IMO. I would either ditch the eggcrate and just put LR and macro in there. It will probally be noisy unless you ditch the top as well because the water will splashdown. If you ditch the top and all trays, just run your drain into a filter sock and run it like any other sump.

If I was in your position, I would score a 40B during the sale and use that.

Just my .02

Few updates I have taken out the bio balls and got 3 1400 hydors for flow and added a black background also have been looking at getting an ro/di unit is there any that you guys suggest? Once I get one of those I can start filling the tank.

good work ditching the bio-stuff. when i first started I had tons of algea problems, then I threw away the biowheel and bioballs. It cleared up in 2 weeks after that, which is lightning fast for a reef tank (only the bad happens fast)

Live rock and live rock rubble are the way to go.
