First TBS Package

My fiance and I have always had freshwater tanks with pretty good success. We wanted to try our hand at our first ever saltwater tank. We purchased a 28g JBJ Nano-Cube. We looked at several of our local shops and were not really impressed with the live rock we had seen. We had our doubts about ordering from TBS with the oil spill and having not actually saw the rock in person. After reading the user reviews, we decided to try our luck with TBS. This turned out to be the best decision we could have made. We received our first half of the "Package" yesterday. It arrived at the airport as scheduled and packaged perfectly. The rock was absolutely wonderful. The live rock was crawling with life. It far surpassed anything we had seen in any of the shops. We cant wait to receive the the second half. Anyone hesitant about purchasing from TBS, feel free to message me. I plan on using Richard for our next saltwater tank. We made our first 25% water change today and parameters are looking good. Will give an update in a couple days.

Good choice!!But you forgot to post some pictures:)

Be sure not to do a water change unless it gets over 1PPM Ammonia
I know how it is not wanting it to go up but if you do your water changes before 1 PPM Ammonia you will be getting rid of your good bacteria before it can change the ammonia to nitrites and then to nitrates!
If you start having really high ammonia send Richard a e-mail for advice, and look for something dead, like sponges, if they start fluffing off or coming apart scrape them off and get them out so they don't cause ammonia.
I got my first 08/13/10 my new startup on the 35 gal. went up to .25 amm.on day 3 and came back to 0 amm. on day 4 and my 90 gal. never changed and it is about day 30 now.I didn't even check Nitrite or Nitrates until about day 10 or so to make sure mine had cycled, I just checked my Ammonia 2 times a day and waited for it to cycle.
Now I check my Nitrates,PH,Cal.etc. 1 time a week and all is well :)
Just turned in another order today, will post pics. after I set it up :)

Good Luck and show it off:)

Craig,

You are basically passing on one of the biggest myths in saltwater tanks. You can do as many water changes as you want during the cycle and it will most likely speed up the cycle. During the cycle is the best time to do frequent water changes. Here is some information for you.

Don't feel bad, the W/C myth is still probably mainstream belief. The science behind water changes makes sense to me, plus even if it somehow extended the cycle slightly, it would definitely be a less stressful cycle by far. I remember seeing that article a few months after my cycle...
