ok couple questions all, now i have a few fish in hypo right now have been in 14ppt for about 3 to 4 days now, and basically i was wondering how long does it normally take for the ick to completely die off of the fish? before i start counting the 6 weeks? like a week or two? and also i lowered my ppt slowly over about a week im wondering if i lowered it too slowly will the ick be able to adjust? my 2 tangs that are in hypo still have alot of ick on them maybe a little less than before i dropped the ppt to 14, but they are eating well twice a day and the pair of clowns in the tank with them have no ick spots on them at all.

lowering it slowly wont strengthen the ick the reason for speed is really only beacuse yo can and it is a case of the sooner the better.

7-14 days should see the ich drop of and you can start the countdown. you should have less every day.

be sure to check and buffer your ph every day.

oh and watch out for signs of a secondary bacterial infection.

hypo is 1.009 and not 1.014 From the very last day that you see the last spot of ich is when you start your timer. 4-6 weeks and no less.

thanks andrew i cant wait til all the ick is gone ;) what would you reccommend for the secondary infection if i do get one?

Anything above 12ppt will possibly allow ich to live although it may kill some of the ich but not all.

ok well i was told anything below 16ppt would be fine but just in case do 14ppt and not under 12ppt

that is terrys exact advice and he knows his stuff. maracyn 2 for a secondary infection at double the recommentded dose for at least 7 days for secondary infection would be a good start.

good water quality should help avoid secondary infection.

Follow anyone's advice you desire BUT the documented and studied hypo is 1.009 or 12ppt.

it is documented to work anywhere below16ppt.

if you go to 16 and your calibration is of ich may survive.

if you end up below 12ppt the fish will be affected.

hence 14ppt is a good middle road you can go to 12 but you need to be very confident.

og is so hard to acuratley measure.

thanks andrew yes the advise i recieved on hypo is from terryB so yes i believe him when he says 14ppt is what i should shoot for and thats what im doing and 1.009 sg on my refractometer is 14ppt or `maybe 13ppt if im off a lil
