the tank has been running for 7 months and is a 29 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump. ive had this piece in my tank for about two weeks i had it in the middle of my rockwork but it kinda looked like it was losing some color so i moved it down to the sand bed and looks a little better, but the ones in the back look like they are stretching maybe? i dont know their id, my lights are a 2 bulb T5 with a 10,000k and actinic bulb

it could be lack of light, but don't hold me on that... i used to have zoas that would stretch under halides around halfway from the light.

the ones int he back are actuallya paly...i havent id them yet but i have the exact same ones...the stalks on mine are about 2-3in long with heads almost as big as quarters.....so dont worry about them...they should be fine....could use a lil more light on your tank imo but you should be fine

yeah i would bring it up more in your tank in the next couple weeks. they might grow a bit faster under a more intense light than the sand bed. i just inherited those as well, really nice ones! good choice

From the pics, there color looks fine. If you like, I'd move them up slowly in 2 week incriments. Also, always start zoas on the bottom in the future.

wow i had no idea, i gotta read about those.

i was thinking of upgrading to a four bulb T5 fixture.

yeah when i first put it in the tank i had it towards the middle of the tank but decided to bring it down, whats the name of them? I'll start raising them slowly then.

Thanks for that advice, now i know for the next ones i purchase. i will be moving them up to where i originally wanted them at.

+1 on starting on the bottom. Nice color on those guys

Thanks! i really like these. just dont know their ID.

Thats a good start....I agree with slowly moving them up...also you might want to invest in some more lighting if your going to get anything other then zoos

Ahhhh...I remember when I got my first zoas. Happy days! They do look nice where they are at, although others may be right that they will do better closer to your lights since you are a little on the low side.

well i went ahead and moved them up a little bit, i had to move a powerhead so it wouldnt give it so much movement, im going to give it about a week or so to see how it does, the Palys opened up immediately after i put them down, the zoas arent looking so great, then again i just moved them, im going to see how they turn out, theres a spot that get more light in my tank that i might just move them there in a week or so. heres a pic of how they look right now in their new spot.

They look pretty good to me, The reason the stalks are long is because of your lower light, I would say if they aren't melting, your probably okay.

Thanks! i cant wait for them to start spreading some, i will be most likely moving them to the right side of the tank because i think the light there is seems stronger.

i have some like that,i think mine are LOR.the color in mine look alot better at the sand bed then up high in the tank.i have put them at all levels and thats where they seem to color up best.my lighting is a 150w 14k mh.i gave some to guy with a t5 setup to see if the color is better.

i was just looking at mine when i was feeding the tank, and i did notice that the color was nicer when it was at the sand bed, i moved them to the other side of the tank to see if it does better over there.
