Dragonvale
New member
Hello WCR, Robert wanted to plan out a contest that a lot of other clubs have been participating in. I felt this was a great way to test our club members reefing husbandry and to give the member who wins it bragging rights
Thank you Robert for the following write up for the contest.
Grow out contest
I wanted to try something new for the club i had an idea but 1st I ran the idea by our club president. he told me that he would run it by the B.O.D and he would get back to me about it.Dragonvale stopped by the other night and said i had the green light. So I decided to setup a friendly competition a coral frag grow out contest. Other clubs have done this in the past, and there is a club currently doing this. I thought that we should give it a shot, we as club would have to "choose as a group" what type of coral to grow out. Keep in mind I would like to get everyone involved so easier corals like zoas or other
lower light corals for the 1st one and if it goes well then we could try sps for the more advanced reefers in the club. With the holiday party on the horizon and the club using funds to purchase a colony this is perfect timing.
The contest will be based on a percentage of growth not on total heads. This is due to not everyone may start with the same amount of heads. so for example you start with 1 head and grow 3 that would be a total of 4 heads and a 300% growth. If you start with 3 heads and end with 8 heads that would be a 5 head change and 267% growth. Highest percentage wins half of the pot. I believe this will be a lot of fun and some good bragging rights for the winner.
There must be a few rules of course.
RULES
1. As a group pick a coral for the contest
2. Choose as a group, a set amount of time for the contest
3. A $5.00 buy in. Half of the funds generated will be given to the winner and the other half back to the club.
4. A contest thread will be created to track the progress of each contestant. Each month, members will be asked to submit a photo of the frag to the thread stating how many heads the coral has.
5. At the end on the contest the winner will be asked to do a small write up about what they did to get the best growth.

Thank you Robert for the following write up for the contest.
