First WCR grow out contest

Hello Wine Country!

Just wanted to let you know I will be borrowing this idea for our local club here in CT, hope you all don't mind.

I was just curious to hear how this is going? Anything that you would do differently?

Thanks,

Mike

Haha, sounds good, I actually just sent out a email to our BoD to make sure everything looks good so we can start our contest as well. We will hopefully be doing Zoas as well so that we can get other folks involved.

Thanks for the great idea, I look forward to seeing your clubs grow out thread! Cause this thread is already in my favorites!!!

There is another California Reef Club, Nothern Valley Reefers (NVR) that is in its 2nd year of a growout.
Year 1 they did... 1) zoa 2) stawberry shortcake sps 3) chalice
Year 2 (this year)... 1)zao 3) ice blue milli 4) acan

Here is the link.

The group used to be active with the RC reef club forum but then launched their own site about 2-3 years ago.

They utilize local coral shops as well as AquaSD (San Diego) to supply the corals. They are their club's sponsors.

Key takeaways from the rules are monthly checkins with pictures by dated deadlines. It must be a picture and quantity. If you do not submit a picture even though you check-in, you are out. They also keep a simple excel spreadsheet to track and post a snapshot of it.

If you need further information, sign up on NVR and email the BOD. They are labeled on the Avatars. I believe most of them are also on RC. PM if you need their RC handles.

Hope that helps.
Mike

Maybe we can have a cross country growout contest between local reef clubs. That woudl be cool.

That actually sounds like a great idea. Sounds like we would need to do a large zoa colony from a wholesaler or the like, have it split, shipped, fragged and we could be off and running....East vs. West!

I'm down, and I think our club would be down to do a East vs West. Were getting our frags from Will at Aquasd. We can always get the grow outs from him. Do you guys have a site or a forum? It would be nice to get to know your club also :) Again this is a great idea

Let's get our holiday meeting over first before we jump on to something else LOL...

Hi Dragonvale...We do have a site www.ctars.org (mind you it is very primative and old and the new BoD is planning a revamp as it has been neglected since inception). We utilize the local forum here on RC under CTARS - Connecticut Area Reef Society.

I agree, we just had our holiday meeting last night and I presented this idea to the board and they like it. So if we don't do it this go around maybe in a few months we can put our heads together and start a little cross country competition!

CCCGOC. Cross Country Coral Grow Out Competition! Cool. As Dragonvale said we need to get our contest going then it's game on!

Anyone besides me planning on using PhotoShop as their main coral growing 'tool'?

:)

Lol guess I need to learn how to use photoshop =)

I think the cross-country grow out is an awesome idea after I win our contest do I get a belt if I win against ctars? (totally joking hoping they don't melt on me lol).
