fish after a powder blue

Hey everyone,

I have a friend selling a very nice 4-5" powder blue tang. This is a fish I would like in my 220 tank. My question is I still plan to add a pair of clowns, 4 or 5 anthias and 2 or 3 banner fish at a later date. What are the chances that the powder blue will cause issues if added before these other fish?

Something I should mention is the rock work is 3 seperate islands so I could easily seperate the tank into sections when addint new fish. However rearranging the rock work wont happen.

I didnt have issue adding any other fish after my pbt was well established. I've added anthias, jawfish, firefish and anthias. Pbt would introduce himself to show he is the boss but no aggression at all.

After doing some reading it seems that as long as the powder blue is the last tang to go in I should be fine with adding a other fish.

Depends on the powder blue and other fish, I had a PBT that chased anything and everything from butterflies and angels that were twice the sizr to a school of green chromis I added. I got rid of the tang for a smaller PBT that didn't bother anything except my established flame angel.

If your friend owns it, he/she can probably give you an idea of what its temperament is like. Each one is different; I had one who was pretty docile and one that I recently got rid of because it was such a pest towards new additions, regardless of the type of fish. It all comes down to the individual fish. Since you still have a fair amount of fish that you want to stock I'd definitely get some information on the tang before adding it.

He says its calm and gets along with everything in his tank but he hasn't added any fish since he put it in the tank.

My pbt and my Achilles went after each other for a few days. They hardly bother each other now. Added a blue tang after and had no issues. Been fine for over half a yr.

I'd think clowns and anthias will be fine but the bannerfish might be a problem. Anything the PBT views as a threat (anything similar in size/shape etc) it will likely fight with to show and establish dominance. I reintroduced a purple tang and added a emperor angel along with a small grouper. The PBT fought the purple relentlessly to where I had to pull the purple back out and messed with the angel a little but after a day the two don't even notice each other.

It really comes down to the fish, every fish is different, you just never know until you try it but be prepared to take action if it fails.

When I did the rock work I did it in such a way that catching and removing fish wouldnt be to bad because I knew I may be pushing a few rules.

I will keep an eye on everyone.
