Fish are lethargic and no eating - dying

I have a yellow tang and a clown fish that are still alive. Here are some pictures of them. They both seem to have abrasions on their face. The yellow tang has white spots? I now have them in quarantine in a 5gal bucket and moved them out of the 40 gallon breeder thank, where they live.

I've lost one clown and 2 damsels in the last 48 hours. My first guess is that this could be a fungal infection so I treated their water with pimafix (API). I am totally new to marine fishkeeping and know very little about fish infections. Any suggestions of what this could be?

I've uploaded some pretty good photos of visual discoloration and pitting noticed in both the fish.

Water conditions in the 40 gallon tank were checked after I lost 2 damsels and they were - 1.024 spg, pH 8.2-8.4, Ammonia - 0 ppm, Nitrite - 0 ppm - Nitrate - 10-20 ppm.

I can't tell from the pics, but I think your clown has brooklynella. I'd read the fish parasites sticky at the top of this forum section. I don't knew when you set up this tank, but it seems like you're moving way too fast. I'd do a lot of reading before you make any more purchases.Cruise RC or interesting stickies, start ti the new hobbyist section. Read a few books on the subject. This is a wonderful hobby; but you can't jump into it with both feet and unarmed. Be vary of store advice.

Fish should be bought and acclimated one at a time, with a few weeks between additions. Toss the Primafix, its worthless. A 40 gal tank is way too small for any tang and you probably were close to the limit when your fish starter dying. You really need a decent quarantine tank and use it with all new fish. Never put a new fish into your display. I would try to get the store to take the tang, it won't last long in a 5 gal. bucket.

^could not agree more! How long has your tank been running? Please read the stickies in the New to Hobby forum. It will save you a ton of time and money!!
