fish catching advice needed

How whould ANYONE suggest catching a royal gramma? and it's in a 90 gal tank and there is NO way I'm moving around 150 lbs of rock. Advice greatly needed and appreciated.

I made a fish trap out of an old juice bottle. I can pass it to you this weekend if you are going to Zilla III. The process of catching him might take only a day or as long as a week, but it has never failed me. Let me know,

I've never tried it, but I've heard the plastic bottle trap works pretty well. However, a gramma might be a little trickier b/c I think he'll be able to slip back out. Does he come up to feed, or does he wait until the food comes to him?

I've done the "sneaky swoop" at feeding time which usually works. I have a wide shallow container that keeps the fish from darting back to the rock, and then I use a net to chase the fish into the bowl.

This method can be complimented with a six pack, but it's usually more effective before the six pack becomes a 2 pack.

Here's two pics of the bottle method mentioned. Also check out this thread. It lists lots of ways to catch fish and critters written by Anothy Calfo and company:

I caught several emerald crabs, shrimp and a couple of fish with this trap. But I did not catch the pistol shrimp I was after.

Is it possible to get to the rock that he sleeps in? All the gramma's I have had always retreat to their home to sleep or when threatened. I have put the bowl into the tank, then set the rock into the bowl and lifted both out of the water. Then take the rock out of the bowl and the fish should stay in the water.

Berkley Bait Rig...at any good sporting goods store. It is a very tiny treble hook rigged on a small monofiliment line. Put a tiny peice of shrimp on one hook & drop in front of him and OUT HE COMES. Very fast & simple without moving anything. I have removed many fish from aquarium & it never takes over a minute.

Try a mirror. Some of the dottyback sort will get so busy fighting the mirror they don't notice a net coming up behind.

They have hooks but are so tiny that I have never had an injury. If concerned, file the barbs off but I don't think it is needed. It's much less intrusive & stressful than chasing around the tank with a net for hours.

My subscribed threads haven't all been showing activity either. I wonder if something's up w/ the system?

hook and line

hook and line

I used this method as well on a pair of damsels. After catching one in a trap, the other would not come near the thing. I used the hook and line and they were together again in the QT.
I have the hooks if you would like to use them. They are micro so no problem on that whale you call a gramma.
Feed the fish very little for a couple days and get something meaty that will stick on the hook (part of worm, power bait, etc.).

Do you suppose this hook will work on a pistol shrimp and purple lobster?
