Fish catching

I need to catch a blue hippo tang tonight. Problem is its in a 125g with lots of live rock. Anybody have any tips to catching one? I dont have a fish trap. I am thinking about using light diffuser to corner it. Maybe somebody has a better idea.

what size is the fish? Is it large already?
If it is still small try using a 1 liter pop bottle with the larger mouth and cut it like the pictures here

I took me two months trying to catch my Blue Hippo Tang. I have tried every trap available; soda bottles, fish hooks, commerical fish trap, you name it. He or she was too smart. What worked for me was using a 10" fish net. I left a space so the fish can swim into the net. I use a long tube to place food into the net. The fish began to get comfortable eating inside the net and when the one I wanted was in the net, I closed off the escape.

The hook didn't work?

I've had tremendous success catching fish for others with a small, barbless #18 fly hook. I still maintain that when done properly, there is very little harm to the fish. Much less than netting.

#18 barbless. 3' of 5x tippet, and you're fishing. With a barbless hook you need to keep tension on the line. The moment you let off, the hook can release. Keep a set of hemostats (or forceps) handy just in case the hook sets deep. Any fly fisherman will have all of these items on hand.

I know it sounds absolutely nuts, but it really works well. I've managed to impress quite a few skeptics over the years with my aquarium fishing. Make sure you have a valid license. :lol:

I am glad the hook worked for you. My Hippo Tang would not go near it. I even had as bait Mysis shrimp. I had a friend that caught his Tomato Clown with a fish hook. So it does work.

They certainly have individual qualities. I don't doubt you! I've heard other fish being too smart for the hook too.

Actually, just the other day I was standing in a river full of fish that were too smart for the hook.
