fish compatibility

Hi all -

I'm new to the forum. Although I've had SW tanks for a couple of years, I'm finally getting serious about my 90g reef.

Today's question is...Can a flame hawkfish live peacefully with blennies or gobies in a 90g with lots of rock work? I've heard they can mix it up with other perching critters.

Any insight would be appreciated - thanks

thanks - those are very cool charts. I may just have to experiment with my particular varieties since it looks like it could work. I'll report on how everyone does.

I always laugh a bit when monitoring is suggested, as in "monitor with shrimp." Does that mean you watch one critter eat the other?;)

Big thing with SW fish is some get posessive, best to add at same time if possible. I don't think flames are bad with fish but shrimp I don't know. If a problem black out tank till new guy adjusts.

By black out, do you mean lights out for an extended period of time, or just early nightfall? I have soft and LPS so I can't do dark for long, but a little chill out period might be good in case of aggression...BTW, thanks for the comment.

Lights out if room is dark, or cover for total darkness if light room. You want it dark enough that your fish look for their sleeping areas. Its only for a few hours till new guy gets over shipping stress. One more thought, if tank is relatively new and not too much trouble and one of your old timers gets aggressive, rearranging the rock work will sometimes chill them. Or net aggressive one and keep separated till new guy gets adjusted (Sump will work).
