Fish Compatibility

I am in the process of downsizing from a 72 bow to a custom 50 breeder and wondered the compatibility of mixing multiple wrasses, gobies, or blennies.

I currently have a six line, two percs, and a large pink diamond spotted goby and am considering a Midas Blenny. I was also considering another wrasse and another gobie (yellow watchman), but am leery of keeping multiple wrasses or gobies in the same tank due to aggression.

I also need a recommendation for the most aggressive hair algae control that is reef safe, since the tang police would arrest me for keeping a small tang. Lawn Mower Blenny?

Thanks in advance for all advice and input.

You can mix fairy wrasses and flasher wrasses. The problem is your sixline. Sixlines tend to get mean. The day my sixline jumped was the happiest day of my life.

My guess is that the Midas Blenny will be OK, provided the sixline leaves it alone. Can't say for certain on an additional goby. I used to have two watchmans (Wheelers and Yellow) together in my 90. They each staked out their half of the tank and left each other alone.

As much as I hate to suggest them, the best thing you can add for hair algae is several large Mexican Turbo Snails. They're big, clumsy, and knock stuff around, but are definitely the true "lawn mowers" of the aquarium. I added 6 to my 90 and did a water change and all of my HA was gone in two weeks. Now that my algae is under control I can't wait for the buggers to die.

I have a 6 line and yes he is a mean little beggar. I put a midas blenny in and they were fine together though I will never know what made the blenny jump but he did......maybe it was the 6 line though I never saw him harass the blenny. The diamond and watchman may be a problem but if they are far enough apart they should be okay........

Hair algae can be dealt with either the turbos and yes they are a pain also a pencil urchin will eat it all and once it is gone try and find someone who has hair and pass it to them......one pencil urchin amongst the club should take care of all the hair......

Chris who hosted the last meeting has an issue with it also.

I don't have a problem with hair algae at the moment and all my levels are in good shape. My concern is that once I part with the Yellow Tang, the hair algae may settle in.

Thank you for the excellent input!

I had a long spine and it did great, just know that you will have to find another home for it or just get rid of it as they get huge fast. I also had a sally light foot that did a great job with this as well

We have a sixline and a midas blenny along with a tiger goby and have no issues. Wish the cinnamon clown would jump though, he is awful!

Forgot we also have a solar wrasse as well still no problems, except the cinnamon clown, and he only bothers the black and white saddle back

Well two different types of clowns in the same tank is usually not a good combination as they will both be territorial....unless you have a very large tank that allows them both to set up their own space.....I would look into getting rid of one or the other

How big is your tank? Let me know if you want to part with your Midas Blenny.

Did you happen to catch a price Phil? They're all over the board. Aquarium world in Lafayette is $53, Gills in Elkhart is $39, online vendors are as low as $20. I really don't want to pay more than $30 for a Blenny.

He was just taking it out of the bag when I was there Thursday night. It is a big one, so it might be 30 or a little higher. had great color though. Looked great. If my 90 was up and stable, it would have been mine.

I really liked my midas blenny and would get another in a heart beat....may have to check it out while I am in there this week.
