Fish Death

100g display tank with 55g sump. Has been up and running for 6 years now with no major problems. (well a little cyano and some bubble algae) ... I went to feed the fish last night and notice that the anemone was not doing well and laying down almost resting on the bottom of the tank. As I opend the top I noticed there was no clownfish coming to great me and knew there was problem. I saw the clownfish upside down on the bottom of the tank. (There was only 2 fish in this tank the clarkie and a flame angel. I still have not found the angel)

Now the anemone was bought at least 3 years ago and the clown was purchased maybe 6 years ago. The angel was probably 5 years old. I know that things of course don't live forever but for all 3 to perish at the same time sounded odd.

I quickly did a 15g water change last night and today tested the water.
Temp 76 normal for tank
SG 1.026 again normal for tank
Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate and amonia all registered 0
Ph - 8

One more little bit of info ... All the corals (on soft corals in this tank) were fine. All were opended up and happy this morning. Looks like all the blue leg crabs and snails are all ok. The brittle star in the sump looks to be fina also ...

Any thoughts on what happened to the fish and the anemone ?

That sounds very strange.

Sounds like some type of potential poisoning......however not sure why corals seem to not be effected. I'd run some carbon, or better yet a PolyFilter. The PolyFilter will turn colors depending on what it picks up (metals, etc.). Both Carbon and the PolyFilter will remove anything toxic.

Would be hard pressed to think all died of natural causes at the same time.

I actually looked for voltage .... didn't find any stray voltage anywhere.

I am currently running carbon but not pollyfilter ... I will go get some though.

I'm also confused on why what lived, did ... I also thinking about testing for copper. Not really sure why ... but it cant hurt

What type of anemone?
What exactly do you mean it was resting on the bottom -- where is it normally?
What lights do you have?

It usually stayed about halfway up the tank, foot deep back in the rocks. Fully opened it larger than a softball. Last night it was the size of a golf ball and had it's foot in the rocks still but was resting on the bottom of the tank. This morning it was compltely lying on the bottom.

It was most likely Heteractis crispa (been to long since it was bought)

The light are PCs ... Always have been from day one.

Sorry .. that are no pics.

Its it a bubble tip, and does it look like it is dissolving? If it does, then you need to remove it,a sit will foul up the tank quickly.

I was just pointing out that if it was. Not saying that it is. In any case if it does look dissolving though its probably a bad sign.

Actually just looked back and its a Seababe (sp?) apparently.

It does not look like it is dissolving as of yet. I will be keeping a close eye on it. I do feel like that it is past the point of no return so it might be better just to remove it now.

I'd really just like to figure out what happened.

I would post a picture in the Anemone forum too when you get a chance, they could probably tell you if it is dying or just being odd.
