fish dies in 2 days.

Hi

I have a problem, and i dont know how to solve it. The problem is, every fish i add, dies in 2 days more or less. At first they seem fine, same the next day, on the seccond day they seem slow, and then they usaly dies shortly after.

then they are dead, there is no signs of spots or anything on them. On the seccond day they do the "heavy breathing".

are there any fish disease that can kill fish so fast? or is the problem somewhere else.

its not nh4 poison, i got a nh4 alarm, in the tank, and it shows no isues.
i have change almost all the water.

How long has the tank been running? Are you getting any amonnia?

no amonia what so ever, comfirmed by 1 test, and one amonia alarm. (the one you put in your tank, that lasts for a year).

the tank has ben running since summer, i then began zeovit, bought a kalium testsæt, bought some potassium chloride, to buffer up my kalium, as the test showed it was a bit low. around the 200. i then over a periode of 14 days buffered up, until the testset was saying it was around 390.

i cant recall if my fish became sick before of after this, i think it was after. So any way first i exchanged about 200L of water, and let the aquarium be for 2 month, then tryed to add one fish. dead 2 days after.

then i did 1 big and 2 smaller water changes, with a total of 900l. waited a month or 2, and tryed again, same result.

change another 100l water, and waited another month, with same result.

i am close on pullig the plug here. the aquarium was a system i moved as i had to move, but the rocks has ben in my aquarium for over 3 years.

i cant measure anything that would indicate big problems. most of my corals seem ok, some are stressed though, either from something in my water, or from all the water changes.

i use RO watter.

There are diseases and parasites that kill that quickly....Brooklynella hostilis comes to mind. But, you would likely see some signs besides just labored respirations and it does have a lifecycle so you would really have to be hitting everything just right to keep having it occur every 2 days without any symptoms. Perhaps you have a bacterial issue or you have just had some really bad luck. Another thing to consider is to test the water of the fish you buy. There was a LFS keeping their tanks at spg 1.011 to 1.012 and was not informing customers that they were doing this. So, folks were buying their fish and acclimating them to normal spg in an hour or 2 and that big a jump.....especially when going up in spg.....can be fatal to alot of fish. Good luck finding a cause/cure.

one of the fish was bought from another reefer who had it for a year.. so i dont think its a bad fish problem.. sadley.

what kind of signs ? one of the fish, had some red blood like signs on its back, its the first who had any signs like that though, the rest just lay dead, and look normal.

somefish are prone to disease ,especially the common clown occelarius IME. what fish are you talking about ? some must be acclimated very slowly . ect.....

delicate fish ? how do you acclimate new fish ? water temp ? temp swings ?if no fish lives do you possiably have a contaminent in there ,perfume household sprays ,windex etc ? nitrite ,nitrate ,levels the later usually wont kill fish fast but nitrite will . do some serious thinking because there is definatly a reason .

I had the same exact problem you are having. It was an oxygen issue. Get an O2 test kit.

do you have a skimmer in that tank ?that would exclude the o2 problem . it very well could be though .

Put a air pump on the system for a few hours and see how the O2 test comes out after that. If you have a protein skimmer, maybe it's not big enough. Also, make sure you have water movement on the surface of the water so there is oxygen exchange. Hopefully, that will help your tank. Keep us informed.

Why don't you change the food. That may be the problem sometimes.

Could it possibly be a stray current or voltage in the tank that could be causing the problem for the fish?

Can you describe the system better. What other livestock is in there, do you have a skimmer, and what size is the tank.
