fish disappearing.....

hello,

well, i had another fish disappear from my well established 75g mixed reef tank. this time it was a 2" fancy clown. a couple months ago i had a helfrichi firefish and a dartfish disappear a week apart.

i have 1/4" mesh tops on the tank, and mesh on the overflow. that eliminates the possibility of jumping out or down the overflow. i'm beginning to believe that something is eating them...

it is stocked with scolies, a meat, trachies, 2 sebaes, and ect....

thoughts?

If you have the frogfish in your avatar in that tank, it is getting well fed.

lol the frogfish is in another tank all by himself. i tried giving the frogfish a fu manchu lionfish for company, and he ate the lionfish! :sad2: good theory, but not valid in this case.... :)

any other ideas?

The bodies of the fish you lost would be consumed by microfauna quite quickly in a system your size.

Any crab can oppurtunistically feed on a week or sleeping fish if hungry enough.

Also, 1/4 mesh limits jumping, but a helfrichs firefish can still make it through, as well as the dartfish depending in the size, I personally just lost a pr ofgrammica dartfish to jumping. One was on top of the screen the other on the floor.

+1

One of the two anemones could have eaten the fish as well. As far as the overflow goes, my Royal Gramma found a way to get into mine even though it is covered with 0.25" mesh. Still trying to figure that one out.
