Love saltwater fishes...
Hello All
I have a little history with this powder blue... I got him about 6 month ago and I had an achillis in the 350 G tank that at the minute I put him in the tank after quarantine, he attached the powder blue... turn off his fin and was chasing him like a mad cow... I never saw him (the achilles) like that before.
I removed the Powder blue out of the tank in less than one hour. He got bitten up badly. I put him in my temp tank 55G where he recovered and did well.
The 350 G got ich I don't know how (the only think I added without quarantine was some snails as I heard they do not carry ich or aptasia) but I got ich.
It was a war for two month and I lost 5 fishes and now have 29 left ( including the achilles died).
Now I got a new achilles (boy they are pricey $250) and I wanted them to get along so I moved the powder blue and the new achilles into the 90G for quarantine. They both got ich on the 3rd day. So I added formaline and treated for one week with still signs of ich. Added Copper per instruction on LFS. Got the ich out so it looks. Got ammonia that have been controlling with water change. now ammonia is back to 0. I also stopped to add copper.
BUT the powder blue has this weird spots on him. The achilles looks fine and all the others look fine too. They are all eating well 3times per day (small amounts). He is eating like a mad fish and is not acting different...WHAT CAN IT BE???
Please let me know.. thank you.
PS. The new achilles and the powder get along very well. Only once the powder torn the achilles fin but it healed well and they are getting along fine now...

While inverts can not host ich they can act as a fomite for the disease. It could have been transferred by the water on the snail or there could have been a cyst on the snail's shell. I've brought in brook from a unquarantined sea urchin.
90 gallons is too small for these two fish. Aggression will lead to stress lowering the immune system.
Formalin is not a recommended course of treatment for cryptocaryon.
What directions did the LFS give you for copper? How long did you leave them in copper and at what level?

Thank you for the fast reply
the 90 G is for quarantine only and it has a bunch of pipes too. He said to do 5 ounces of copper and when I changed the water to add 1 ounce for every 20G so it would always be 5 ounces. I am maintaining it at 1.0 Copper. Should I just stop dosing copper? How long is the copper supposed to be in the tank with the fishes... when do I stop the copper?
I just tested the water again now
Copper 1.0
Ammonia 0.4
Nitrate 10
Nitrite 0.3
The numbers are all bad again but I have not done the water change yet... working on it now..
thank you

ps. all the other times I quarantine I did not use any copper or any medication on the other times i quarantine the fishes so I just left them in quarantine for awhile and watched them. I never used copper before or any medication for that matter..

Oh, sorry...should have read your sig line. I'm not a big proponent on copper but based on Steve's stickies at the top of the forum it should be maintained for a month. The ammonia level is way to high. I would do an immediate water change, get the copper out and dose something to lock the ammonia unless you can do a 100% water change which is typically not recommended.
Read the stickies and see if there is a treatment you are comfortable with. I personally do TT and have never had a problem with it.
