Hi there!

I was wondering why in my tank, my powder blue seems to be much slender or perhaps Malnourish should be the right words to described. the rest of the fish are just perfectly well build body.

Although my poweder blue looks malnourish but he is active and also eat a lot too.

is there something wrong with him? or just simple not well fed?

here is the picture (sorry, he was secluded becasue he along with the other 2 are fighting and chasing my new purple tang)

The powder blue may have some internal worms affecting its health. Do you see any stringy excrement? What are you currently feeding your fish?

thanks for your response.

I don't have any idea if there is any stingy excrement but I also doubt he should be having some internal worms. can you tell me how to treat it? and if this internal worms also contagious?

I fed them:
1) tetra marine granules XL
2) Dried sushi seaweeds

I suspect the fish may have some internal parasite given it is eating and failing to gain body mass. Greens and pellets sound good, however maybe you can supplement its diet with some mysis shrimp or fatty foods. A vitamin supplement, like Selcon or Vitachem, will also help.

Stringy or whitish excrement could help ID possible internal worms.

How long have you had your powder blue tang? If it's been a short period of time (less than one month), I would continue to feed a healthy diet with some vitamin supplement. If you have had the fish for more than 6 months and the fish is not gaining weight (from the picture it looks very thin), a treatment with a dewormer medication like Praziquantel. I do not know what medications you have access to in Taipei.

I sent you a PM.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your kind revert of more information.

Today, I went to the local fish store, but they told me that govt forbid them to sell drugs to us, so we are unable to have access to the drugs you mentioned in treating the internal worms of my fish.

I wonder if Garlic can help? if not, then I will just let the fish die? as of now, he is very active in eating and I think, the vitamin supplement can help in case no medicine for trteatment?

any other technic to cure him? please further advise.

thanks for everything.

Cheers,

A good and varied diet supplemented with vitamins is your best course without meds in this case. A variety of greens (nori, algae) and a mixture of pellets and frozen foods are suggested. I do not think garlic will be much help in this case, however if its appetite changes for the worse, garlic could help encourage the fish to feed.

Sorry to hear you have limited treatment options. I do not have any additional suggestions as of now.
