Fish dying but CuC okay...

Just wanted to ask a quick question. I had a firefish that lived for about week before dying. I also had a black perc that lived about two weeks. A cleaner shrimp also lived about a week. It's weird because my clean up crew of nerite snails, nass snails, and scarlet hermits (I don't think I have any blue ones... if I did they died, too, but I'm fairly certain lol) have done fine. SG is 1.025-1.026 (it's hard to tell on my refractometer actually, but I would err on the side of 1.026). Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate are all 0. Calcium was good, too. Don't have a copper test kit but I'll be getting one to check. I make my own water, too. Anyone have any ideas?

what kind of test kit are you using to test nitrate, nitrite and ammonia? I hear CUCs can withstand fairly high nitrates while fish can't. maybe the test went bad?

Uhh...You heard wrong. Fish can handle fairly high nitrates. It's ammonia and nitrites, that are poison. If it was copper, your inverts would be dead and your fish alive. If you bought all of these from the same LFS, I would question the LFS. If not, then I would have a question about other contaminates in the tank. Then again, sometimes we lose fish for no discernible reason.

Good response. I would add; what is your aclimation process? Also, does your LFS put a date on when the fish came in?
