Hi there,

Recently all the fish i bought is dying. i add 1 by 1 at each time over 3 days. but i have no luck at all.

Last week i clean my sand, sump and change all the water due to bad water condition. And now the tank was 1 week old. and i dose micto bacter 7, bio-digest, dio-tim, stop ammo. this is all i dose for the tank to cycle. I'm using back my previous old live rock which is in my tank for over 1 year. and i didnt wash it at all. Can any one tell me what wrong in my tank. as today i just add a maroon clown and sailfin blenny.

RIP:

Yellow wrasse
Sailfin tang

you added fish way to fast and killed them by ammoinia with your haste.the clown might live because they are tough. Did you even bother to cycle the tank?

The above member is most likely correct. Have you tested your water? What 'bad water condition' did you have? Just because you add artificial denitrifyers doesn't mean you have a big enough bacteria colony to adequately remove ammonia and nitrite. Not to mention you most likely had at least some die-off with your live rock. You said you added some products to cycle the tank but how long did you wait?

whoever is selling you these fish..shame on them, im sure you told them about the fish dying and they still sold you more fish anyways knowing damn well they'll die. shame on that lfs.

and why would you add more fish after you just killed two? dont you think thats irresponsible to commit two more fish to certain death before taking any action?

My guess is your setup doesn't provide the needed filtration.
10 times the tank turnover + skimmer + ro water + live rock.

whats your equipment you have on the tank?

cycle, then add fish,

if you dont follow the rule, you shouldnt be surprised u killed the fish ...

most LFS are just there to make the sale ...

thanks for the quick reply.

my tank setup will be 2.5 feet tank with a sump. in my sump, i have rough coral sand, bioball, and sponge to filter all the dirty thing and skimmer as well. tank ligthing is 150w mh and 2x 24w gieseman actinic blue.

My water parameter is,

salinity:1.023
KH: 10dkh
nitrate:10ppm
po4:0ppm
nitrite:0ppm
amonnia:0ppm
calcium:500ppm

my hairy mushroom keep on dropping off from the rock and doesnt thrive well.

Hi guy,

I have another question. i wonder why, my calcium level always out of range (very high).
The salt im using is tropic marine. is there any way to lower down my calcium level? anything that might use this calcium in my water parameter? Currently my coral is
red mushroom, hair mushroom ( all doesnt want to stick on the rock and doesnt thrive), leather (doesnt thrive well), button, and anemone.
thanks

Guleng with alot of respect it sounds like your new set up is cycling please use google and search um tank cycling or highlight this now. Okay now dont buy anymore fish for a month or two sounds like you are addicted to getting the tank perfect, but that doesn't happen overnight, it takes a slow long process and everyones success is measured differently. A good sign you are failing is multiple dead fish, dont worry about your softies they will flourish when your tank finishes cycling if they dont die before. I lost a fish about 3 months ago in my new fish only project that turned into a fish and softy similar to what you have. i started with 50% of all the old rock from my old tank same size, and some dead coral for decorations, and 2 inches of Live sand from my old tank. Now even though i had stuff from an already established mixed reef the tank cycled for 7 weeks, my lfs guy said to add fish at 3 weeks even though he had measured my parameters which he side were fine but I know better they were not good enough to add livestock and then i added 2 fish at 6 weeks 1 made it and now the tank had cycled and the only problems are with nitrates and the mushroom colonies are becoming full and finding there space etc....
No more $ fish my brother, cycle the tank when you get to 0 ammonia for 2 weeks straight and 0 nitrites and 0 nitrates well to at least 15 or less on the nitrates. Then maybe a fish. Never 2 in a week with what has happened, no more overstocking. Take this with the notion that it is not advice more a push to better things, good luck.

Check your magnesium level. Kh, Cal and Mag are all related. If one is out of whack, they will all be unstable.

thanks for the replies. So the thing i can do is just wait for it to cycle right?
i havent check my magnesium level, but i dose twice a week. the magnesium is seachem brand . another question. My LR have a lot of fireworm / bristle worm. how do i eliminate them?

The bristleworms population will move in the same direction as its' food supply. The food supply would be dead fish and decomposing food and waste. Kepp those in check and the bristleworm population will keep itself in check. They do no harm, but too many will tell you you have a poroblem in most cases.

Nature doesn't happen overnight, it needs time. I made similar mistakes like yours when entering the hobby. Be patient :)

alright thanks. i will try to trap the bristleworms. btw, my hairy mushroom is melting down. eventually it is dying after the meltdown process. i just wonder why isit. but other red mushroom are not melting down tho

yaya. im using ro water for my tank. my rose anemone lose 1 tentacle. can carpet sting it? as it near to carpet tho

Take a picture of your tank and post it or pm them to me, guts and all. I would really like to help. that will help to answer a lot of the questions. Do you have anything metal in your or around tank or sump? nails, screws...I'm willing to bet 100 dollars that you have stainless steel clamps in your sump to clamp the vinyl piping together...which would be your problem.

there is no metal or stainless stell in my tank nor sump . i will take the photo of my tank include coral and equipment (everything) later on. Isit possible that the pump is using stainless steel to hold the magnet?

no no no no no. you need to cycle... dont add anything just put in a hardy fish like clown or damals if you can return then if u dont want them.

LET THE TANK CYCLE:fish1:
