Fish for a 75 gallon LPS Tank

Brewer and Reefer
I'm in the process of establishing a 75 gallon setup for LPS. The coral population will include frogspawn, torch, hammer, bubble, candy cane, blastos and possibly an acan.

It will be a few months before I'm ready for fish, but I want to start researching choices now.

What are the LPS fanatics favorite LPS friendly fish choices for a 75 gallon??

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Im in the same boat with you, just picked up my 75rr the other day, but wont be up until the room is done being remodeled.

What do you have in the current tank? I just have two clowns, I may roll the dice and try another flame angel. Some sort of wrasse may be on my short list also.

I have a pair of ocellaris and a firefish in the current tank. I also have an LTA that the clowns are hosting in so they leave my much smaller LPS alone.

I'll be moving all of the LPS to the 75 and leaving the 55 a softie tank with the one anemone.

I was thinking of a flame or another pygmy angel, but since they are 50/50 with being reef safe, I was wondering if that was influenced by the types of coral. That's why I posted in this forum, to see if fish that work out in SPS or Softie environments might behave differently with LPS.

Right now my wish list includes a flame angel, a royal gramma and a purple tang. I know that many consider a 75 marginal for a tang, but I know people doing well with them, and I'm planning a larger tank in a year.

Just about any angel has potiential for nipping at sps or LPS. Generally are much safer assumptions with Softy only tanks. Doesn't mean you can't keep them but you must be willing to risk the coral or the fish and have a plan for getting it out at the first sign of destruction. Also don't assume that if it leaves them alone initially that it won't turn on you. Sometimes it can be years before they develop a taste for them.

The lawnmower blennies IMO are a mainstay. They have good personalities and fun to watch.

Purple Tang should be fine, it will eventually outgrow a 75g so be prepared to upgrade or trade in the fish later down the road.

Rabbitfish are also very good marco algae grazers to help keep nuisance algae down. Be sure to research which ones though as some can get rather large and outgrow your tank.

Bangaii Cardinals are also good peaceful fish, they like to hover alot and captive ones easy to care for.

If you like schooling type fish sever Green Chromis would work.

Royal Gramma is pretty safe with corals but are territorial. Let that be one of your last fish to add.

There are many fairy wrasses are good choices, some need a covered tank so do you research. My personal favorite is the solar wrasse.

Thanks David,

I like the idea of the Bangaii's. I had also considered some Green chromis in a school, but I'd like to get a lot of variety with a lower fishload.

There is a spouse approved plan for larger tank in the family room, hopefully in a time frame that will suit the tang. But, I will trade him if necessary. When we do get the larger tank, there will be a school of chromis.

I'll check out the solar wrasse as well. Thanks for the ideas!
