Fish for my 30 gallon tank?

I currently have a Percula Clownfish and a Starry Blenny. I would like to add more fish soon.

I am currently thinking about the following:
  • Purple Firefish (1 or more? flake food okay with occasional mysis?)
  • An additional Percula Clownfish (current one is about 8 years old and tank to himself... issues?)
  • Chromis ( 2 or more?)

Any other fish that have good personalities and aren't too skittish like the starry blenny?
Open to other suggestions.

Thanks!

I like the idea of a purple firefish! Ive always wanted one but havent pulled the trigger because I cant decide if id rather have the helfrichi instead lol. Anywho, another option/ suggestion would be a yellow watchmen or maybe a sleeper goby. Gobies are some of the coolest fish, lots of personality and fun to watch them burrow and make caves and tunnels

Firefish are cool but they hide a lot. Another clown would be cool, they may pair up as long as the new one is smaller. No on the chromis.

I wouldn't get more than 1 blenny in a tank that size. Particularly because the starry blenny can get big. Here's a few suggestions: Banggai Cardinal, pygmy wrasse, or a yasha goby pair with pistol shrimp.

Agreed. Your list looks reasonable and responsible. I would hold off on additional blennies.

I know the Helfrichi is more expensive then the purple firefish but I have have many firefish since I have been in saltwater and the regular and purple firefish aren't even close to the Helfrichi. Not only are the colours nicer, the Helfrichi is not scared of other fish or me. If I put my hand in the tank, he will stay out of the rock work unlike the other two firefish who will instantly retreat to a rock. I would strongly recommend the Helfrichi for your tank

Chromis are dying like flies lately and some wholesalers aren't even carrying them. I have no idea why. I think another clown is the ideal fish, but having an old, established clown accept him may be iffy. These clowns are more territorial than aggressive; so when the new clown is done with with your QT regimen; put the established clown in your QT for a few weeks, then re-introduce her. Single clowns are almost females and a smaller one will become a male in her presence. Be sure they are the same species, a Percula and not an Ocellaris.

I have a red firefish in my 56 gal FOWLR, hes out all the time and eats anything i feed, I mean anything. Pellets, gel, frozen, freezed dried herbivore, meaty, doesnt matter! LOL That may be a unique fish I have but thats the one I got.

Not saying get all of these but these are some possibilities...

You could try a goby or two, there are some very interesting gobys out there!

Pygmy wrasse are pretty cool.

The black cap basslet is an awesome fish in my opinion

A splendid dottyback would be pretty cool

A Siccortail Dartfish (related to firefish) would be a nice add. I have a large (4+ inches) one that almost reminds me of a mini barracuda. And if hes not out, hes poking his head out of his home (a giant conch shell i have in the tank

If you want something with personality though, get the Longnose Hawkfish. I had one (it jumped out sadly) and it was one of the coolest fish i have ever seen. Reminds me of a hummingbird, i highly reccomend it

Goby firefish for sure (red or purple). You may consider a blenny, very neat and comical fish IMO. Im afraid 30 woukd be too small for chromis they like the room to swim. You may consider a basslet ( chalk bass or even a blue accessor) or a psuedochromis (dottyback). HTH... have fun and get creative.

Thanks for the input! I know have more fish to look into before deciding what I will do. I do like the idea of the gobie and shrimp!
